When for your home, you have to take into consideration, the type of fence that you want, you need to choose a fence that will fit into the overall design of your house and property. Also you will have to decide what type of fence you would like, and what is the main purpose of building a fence, are you planning on building a fence for your back yard or do you intend to fence your whole property, these are some important questions that you should ask yourself. Are you looking for more privacy, or maybe you have just gotten a new puppy and would like him to run freely in the yard, without you having to worry whether he will run in the road and get knocked down by a passing vehicle. Once you have all these questions answered you are on your way to building a fence for your home.



Now before you begin digging holes to build your fence, you should first have some idea of where the boundary line is on your property as you don't want to go digging up the neighbor's yard and getting into trouble. Check that deed title to be sure you know where your property starts and if you are uncertain then you should check with your local building office and they are sure to have records of every parcel of land in your neighborhood.

Ok now that you have ascertained what is rightfully yours, you can proceed to build a fence in your backyard , first you will have to run a string line which will be your guide line during installation as to where you will have to position the fence. Set some pieces of wood at the corners of your yard and run pieces of string between them. To determine how many panels of fencing you will need, simply measure along the string line, and mark the spot, if the length of the panel is eight feet then you will have to space your posts every eight feet.

Next dig some holes for your posts probably around twenty inches deep then remove the excess dirt and mark your holes with little wooden stakes placing them to the right and left of the hole and then attach your posts to the steak using string, this is to make sure that the posts stay in a level position while you are cementing them. Be sure and use a primer to prevent the posts from rotting and then you can start cementing the posts in place, mixing the cement according to the directions. After you have finished cementing all the post you should allow the cement to harden for about 24 hours before installing your fence panels.

Now you are almost done building a for your back yard, all you have to do now is install the fence panels which is not very difficult, first remove all the wooden steaks from the posts and start laying out your fence panels. Make a notch at the top of each post on the side that you are going to be hanging the fence panels, and make sure that the notch is deep enough to accommodate the panel stringer. Start hanging the fence panels off of the posts and nail them with a nail gut, then cut each stringer on the panel to fit snugly on the corner posts and you are all done building your very first fence, all that's left to do now is for you to paint it whatever color your hearts desire and you are done.
