If you are looking for the type of rock music that is led by musicians who are non-drinking, anti-narcotic consuming, law-abiding citizens you might want to avert your eyes and ears from the simple melodies of a sweet little outfit known as Motley Crue. Most people know the “motley looking crew” for their former bad-ass drummer Tommy Lee (last name Bass, in case you were curious). The heavily tattooed Tommy Lee is very well-known for his highly publicized celebrity marriages to plain Jane types...like Heather Locklear and, later, Pamela Anderson. It was Pam who joined him in front of the camera for a highly publicized sex-tape scandal. Shortly after, she accused him of beating her, at which point he found himself behind bars and subsequently in the midst of an equally high profile divorce, only to be released, then to reconcile again, but then to break up once more. The Tommy-Pam saga provided ongoing bad entertainment during the 1990s. The marriage, eventually and thankfully, fizzled, and in time so did Tommy Lee's presence in the band after repeated nasty disputes with bandmate Vince Neil. There have been calls for a collaborative reunion tour in the past, but always seemed to go unanswered…until now. All four original Motley members (including Lee) are currently showing their chops during their Saints of Los Angeles 2009 Winter Tour. Their first stop was at Cox Arena in San Diego, where they shared the stage with special guests Hinder, Theory of a Deadman and The Last Vegas. The bad boy rock-maniacs have penned 28 more dates on the tour books, including stops in Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans and Pennsylvania. They will wrap things up with a bang at the Cumberland Co. Motley Crue formed in 1981, gaining traction at local clubs throughout Los Angeles, California for their exceptionally unique stage theatrics. After attracting the attention of Allan Coffman, who helped finance their first effort, Motley Crue released Too Fast for Love on the independent Lethur Records label. Soon afterwards, they signed with Elektra Records and issued Shout at the Devil, which dropped in 1983. Unfortunately, celebratory partying was marred by the news that vocalist Vince Neil was involved in a fatal automobile accident. While Neil was not injured, his reckless driving due to intoxication resulted in the death of one of his close friends.

The group forced themselves to get back on track and issued Theatre of Pain next, which burned up the charts and propelling this motley-looking pack of musicians into superstar territory. Girls, Girls, Girls followed, but the band's success was halted when all of the members sought counseling in a drug rehabilitation center. Supposedly, they returned to the spotlight in 1989 clean and sober, although there still is a debate to be had about how sober. That year they issued Dr. Feelgood, which contained the hit songs “Kickstart My Heart,” “Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away),” “Without You” and, of course, the famous title track, which became their first top ten single on the charts.

After Dr. Feelgood, the members of Motley Crue lost some of their vigor. Tensions grew within the band and several members, including both Neil and Lee, left in pursuit of solo careers and other projects. And then it happened-a new album and a new tour emerged in the form of Saints of Los Angeles. If you thought rock music was getting a little wimpy...think again.
