National Center For Alternative Medicine

    View:
Before we can understand the term: Alternative Medicine, it is necessary for us to first understand what Conventional Medicine is. Now Conventional Medicine is the current medical system of hospitals, doctors, medicine and chemists. In short, the general accepted health care system of any country. Doctors go to university, study for seven or more years, do an internship at a hospital, and then join or start a medical practice. When you are sick, you go to a doctor, who will prescribe some medicine, send you to a hospital, and/or do an operation.

Under the term: Alternative Medicine, we understand that it contains practices and medicine not recognized by conventional medicine. This is medicine that is not taught at universities and not available at hospitals. Sometimes they are used together with conventional medicine. We then call it: Complimentary Medicine. Alternative medicines include some of the following: acupuncture, Chinese medicine, chiropractic medicine, folk medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, faith healing, naturopathy, new age healing, massage, and music therapy.

Why do people visit Alternative Medicine practitioners?

Statistics show that more people visit Alternative Medicine Practitioners than visit Conventional Practitioners, preferring to pay out of their own pockets rather than use the healthcare system. Why is that? It is perhaps because Alternative Medicine is more traditional, for example, Ayurvedic medicine, which is traditional Indian medicine, has been practiced for the past five thousand years and traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced for over three thousand years. Alternative medicine believes in the body's natural ability to heal itself, and just helps in the process. In addition to that, most alternative medicines are natural and non toxic.

By further comparison we see that alternative medicine excels in the treatment of chronic diseases. It strives to find the cause for the disease and is also more focussed on prevention. Conventional medicine, by contrast, focuses on the relief of symptoms, and rarely looks at prevention or the cause of the disorder. Alternative medicine sees the person as unique and focuses on a holistic approach to healing him. Conventional medicine focuses on the organ that has a problem; hence you get cardiologists, neurologists, etc.

Alternative medicine concentrates on gentle, long term support. Contrast this with the aggressive intervention of conventional medicine.

Alternative medicine views the body as energy, and an imbalance in energy causes illness. Conventional medicine views the body as a mechanical system, and any illness is a chemical imbalance, to be treated with chemical drugs.

With alternative medicine, patients work with the practitioner in the healing process. Conventional medicine, by contrast, prefers that the patient takes a passive role in his healing.

Alternative medicine concentrates on gentle, herbal remedies, whereas conventional medicine is tied in with the whole pharmaceutical system which concentrates on making a profit.

Alternative or conventional medicine? Or a mixture of both? You decide.

What present-day medicine considers ?complimentary medicine? has de facto been around far longer than the modernistic practice of surgery and healing. India, China, and the Middle East display all been practicing mind/body medicine for thousands of years, with varying degrees of success. The avant-garde medical community has a sparse forms of complimentary medicine that they find acceptable, though it has just been in the last lean years that they have come to that conclusion. Mindless of what your own physician's thoughts are about complimentary health, it remains scientifically unproven whether it works or not.

Ayurvedic medicine is existent in almost the length of Indian past. Ayurveda is the systematised version of Vedic and Buddhist cultures, supported by the transcendental expression and interpretation on health and disease. This approach is similar to naturopathy.Naturopathy treatment refers to a system of therapy that solely depends on natural ingredients and remedies. These natural remedies include sunlight, water, air, natural diet treatments, and therapies like massage. Naturotherapy was developed with the knowledge and belief that our body heals by itself, and it is only our job to guide our body for recovery. For naturopaths, a wounded body should be surrounded by a healthy, natural environment, so the body could heal faster. Naturopathy is also an extension of our belief in our supernatural soul and mind. Striking the perfect correspondence, might, and harmony is the greater critical idea in this breed of alternative treatment.

Traditional Chinese medicine includes the use of acupuncture and herbal remedies to treat ailments. The Chinese believe that these remedies help individuals superior than western science. It has since grown into a worldwide phenomenon. When an individual has a medical or health condition, the specialist finds alternative ways to treat their problem. This includes ingesting less well-liked herbs and taking herbal supplements. They also use acupuncture to treat some conditions. This embodes inserting sharp needles into variant parts of the body.

There are a wide medley of alternative treatments, including Yoga, chiropractic, homeopathy, and hypnosis. Hypnosis takes in treating the patient's subconscious. The hypnotist implants an idea in the patient's mind to help them quit smoking, lose weight, or exercise more. Homeopathy is a term used to describe any treatment done without the use of stylish medicine. With Yoga, the individual learns how to focus their mind, while also working their body. The stretches done in Yoga help the individual improve their posture and lose weight, but it also works their mind. It encompasses relaxation techniques and a calming spirit. There are also chiropractic treatments, which are used on patients with back problems. The individual works the patient's back and joints, but isn't a doctor.

Numerous say that the scepticism and the argument against alternative health are getting thinner by the day. The biggest opponents of complimentary medicine are career practitioners of western medicine. Myriads professionals suggest that alternative medicines are sufficient only as a supplementary treatment. In addition, numerous say that complimentary health is loosely regulated compared to up-to-the-minute western medicine, and that there are no standards or protocols to protect members of public when something goes wrong. Most alternative medicine treatments display no therapeutic claim. Sceptics of alternative medicine believe that not everyone should be qualified to practice without certified training. The call for more regulations has hounded proponents of complimentary medicine in the olden days. However, more and more disciplines of alternative medicines are organised and institutionalised in the U.K., Europe, and the United States.

Inadvertent of the condition, there is an alternative medicine theory that specialists believe may help you. While it isn't as easy to spot alternative medicine practitioners in rural spheres, larger hospitals often keep a list of specialists in the area for those patients who enquire. Physicians might be reluctant to refer you to an complimentary medicine practitioner, but if you ask, frequently they'll show an opinion to share.
