The original film �National Treasure� was released in 2004 and was a smash hit! When it was announced a sequel was in the works, many wondered if it could live up to the first film. Film goers have been pleasantly surprised; �National Treasure: Book of Secrets� (also called National Treasure 2) delighted viewers and film critics alike.
Filled with more action than you can imagine, this film which runs 2 hour and five minutes, will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. From the beginning of the film until the final credits roll, viewers are taken on a globe-trotting romp. Partly based on actual history, the film is also party myth and part mystery. That combination produces intrigue, hi-jinx and a great deal of fun which is suitable for the entire family.
Ben Gates, played by Oscar-winner Nicholas Cage (who reprises the role) finds himself traversing the world in search of the �Lost City of Gold�. Gates is a true treasure-hunter and is up to the task. Clues are reveled to Ben little by little until he reaches the final clue. The final clue, however, comes with mighty big strings attached � before the final clue will be revealed, Ben must first kidnap a prominent Washington D.C. figure. The decision he makes about the kidnapping proves to be life-altering for Gates.
After more twists and turns than the most thrilling roller-coaster, Ben finds the final clue which will lead him to the Lost City. There�s only one hitch; he must kidnap a prominent U.S. government official in order for the clue to be revealed. Will he do it? You�ll have to watch to find out. The film is rated PG due to some violence; but is suitable for most family viewing.
Also featured in the film are the lovely Diane Kruger, who play�s Ben�s love interest and fellow globetrotter, Abigail Chase. Rounding out the cast is the always-captivating Harvey Keitel, best know for his wonderfully �creepy� performance in Taxi Driver.
The plot is based around Ben�s search for the �Lost City of Gold�. Cinematography buffs will enjoy the interesting camera angles and the beautiful shots of Paris and London. Ben, along with family and friends, trots around the world looking for the Lost City. Following a string of clues, Ben finally gets to the clue which will lead him to the treasure he seeks.
The movie is rated PG and is acceptable viewing for most families. The rating is based on the amount of action it contains and some scenes featuring violence. An adventure film and a thriller, the movie also contains a great deal of humor and captivating performances by all of the wonderful actors.
