When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see? Do you like what you see even if it isn't perfect? Self image and weight loss go hand in hand. It's hard to believe this, but even skinny people have some part of their body that they aren't particularly fond of. A big part of losing weight is a mental challenge and learning to love yourself no matter what size you are.
The way that you look at yourself can determine how you feel about the rest of your life. When we believe we don't look good, we don't feel good. That goes for men and women both. Some believe that they won't be accepted until they lose weight or have plastic surgery. Personally, that's just dealing with the problem on the surface, it's not changing whats going on inside. It's important to feel good about ourselves no matter what. Some people have a difficult time accepting themselves and who they are.
Our self image plays a role in weight loss. If you can't accept who you are right now, permanent weight loss will elude you. Self image and weight as I've said before go together. I can't stress that enough. When your trying to lose weight, do it for yourself, not for someone else. That doesn't work because when they lose interest, you will stop losing the weight or even gain it back.
Just say to yourself, I am worthy of love and acceptance. It's a great way to reprogram your thinking. No one body is perfect. The goal of weight loss is to be healthy so that we can live a long life. Those 10 or 20 extra pounds that we carry can make a difference in our health. We don't want to cut our lives short. Your primary concern when it comes to weight loss should be your health.
So how do we accept ourselves? First we can start by wearing clothes that flatters our shape. I know that can be tricky, especially if we don't know much about fashion. There are a lot of people that can help, namely friends and family. Feeling good about how we look in our clothes does wonders for our self image. I guarantee that you will get compliments on the ensembles you put together.
Another thing that you have to be careful about is putting on an outfit that is too small or tight for you. A size fourteen body in a size ten pair of pants is not cute at all. How can you be happy with yourself if you can't breathe because your clothes are cutting your oxygen off?
Just dress your best and feel good about it. As you lose the weight you will feel healthier. A great way to celebrate your weight loss success is by donating those bigger sizes to charity. Don't keep them around as your security blanket in case you regain the weight. Just clean out that closet and make room for the new you and never look back. Just move forward and keep the focus on the end result. Believe me you will succeed.
Try not to be so hard on yourself. The first thing a person sees is your body, but the thing they will remember is your attitude and personality. Take their mind, and yours, off of the outside and redirect it to what you have inside. It's really not that hard to do.
We are not defined by our size, even though some people think they are. Sometimes that can be a high mountain to climb. A positive attitude can take you a long way though. A positive self image and weight loss program can and will work wonders. Just believe it. So get your mind under control as well as your weight.
