It's something that happens to everyone now and again - you're just not making enough money. Maybe your life circumstances have changed, like you've just gotten married or had a new baby, maybe prices are going up, up, up or maybe you just want a little more money for some of the extras in life like a nice vacation or more nights out on the town.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to make more money, unless you want to change jobs, uncovering new income streams can be easier said than done. Unless you work in the kind of job where you get incentive bonuses for reaching certain thresholds of performance, there probably isn't much you can really do increase your work salary. That doesn't mean all hope is lost, however. It simply means that you have to think outside of the box a little bit and come up with new ideas for new income streams.

If you own your own business, new income streams can be relatively easy to discover. All you have to do is examine your business and see if there is some way you can either diversify to draw in new customers or if you have capitalized on all of the business connections you do have. For instance, if you own a hair salon, maybe bringing in some manicure and pedicure services as well as some spa services might attract a whole new customer base and give you new income potential.

Likewise, if your service is one that is offered to other business, like transcription or printing, are you sure all of your potential customers know you're there? New businesses open up all the time, so your best client might be one who you haven't discovered yet because they weren't even in business the last time you publicized your services.

If you don't have your own business, things can be a little trickier. You'll have to find work you can do outside of your normal work hours. It doesn't have to be a drag, however. Look for things you will enjoy doing that can also earn you some money. If you look forward to a walk after work and love animals, maybe you can make some extra money walking dogs for people.

If you're an internet junky, try selling some things on internet auction websites. Budding writers can find sites on the net where they can sell their work. If you like to cook, advertise your services and try selling baked goods to people who might need them for parties or catered events. Chances are that there is a way to capitalize on your talents and hobbies and turn them into an extra stream of income for you.

Of course, second jobs are always an option to consider. If you need money for a fixed period of time, say, for holiday shopping or to save for a family vacation, a second job might be your best option. Whatever you choose, finding a second income stream to take the load off is possible.
