Niche Marketing - The Easier Path To Online Success

Over the previous 10 years, the WWW has come of age. It's more than just getting as many eyeballs viewing your pages as you can. Effective marketing isn't about funnelling masses of indiscriminate traffic to read your website. If you want to be successful on the Internet, you need to choose a specific niche and advertise only to those potential customers who might be interested in what you are presenting.



You may be wondering what a niche is, and why it is important to your Internet success. A niche is a highly focused subject of importance to people in that "community". It could be a crowd with a certain pastime, such as embroidery or Japanese flower arranging; a group of sports enthusiasts, like polo players or snowboarders; collectors of specific items like old cars, or people searching for information on a special subject. Whatever niche you select, it should be one with a quite small, but lively group of supporters.

Why is this tactic better than attempting to convince a large group of people to buy what you are offering? Quite simply, by choosing a smaller, more targeted group of people, you have a ready made group of interested prospects, waiting to look at what you are presenting. Make a compelling offer, and it's likely you'll make a sale. You won't have to clarify or convince - just come up with an excellent product or service that your niche wants and you will have all the customers you can handle.

So, what's the best way of locating a niche? Think about topics that can be dissected into smaller sections that would be attractive to enthusiasts who absolutely must have what you've got.. One niche businessperson was known for making hundreds of thousands of dollars offering badges for Lamborghini sports cars long before he owned one. Another made his riches selling fly fishing tackle online. A sharp collector sold classic comic books. Are you getting the idea?

Locating a "hot" niche will take some doing. Discover a niche with enough potential customers who are eager to buy what you are offering. Still, you don't want a niche so large that there is too much competition. Fighting for customers is a waste of time if there is no way you will ever be able to rule your selected niche. And of course, the whole point is to rule whatever niche you choose to market to.

With a bit of studying, you can simply find what people are interested in. Go to your local bookstore and examine the magazine rack. Go online and research for whatever is fashionable. Look for new trends and popular topics. Figure out what people are buying, and how you can modify it and come up with an attractive subject your prospects would love to get hold of.

Choose a niche that provides you the ability to develop more than just one item. Even if it is a variation of your 'core' subject, being able to present more than just one thing makes sound business sense. After all, you want to be able to offer your prospects the chance to purchase from you repeatedly over time.

Creating joint ventures is a great way to improve the likelihood of generating massive sales. Find a niche that is similar to yours - not a competitor - and create a win/win situation by sharing lists and promotions. This can supply more opportunities to contact your customers and share information about something that may be of interest to them. Promoting your site among several joint venture colleagues may be a desirable option. If you can locate an "expert" in your chosen niche, even better.

There is likely more than one way to develop your niche market or deliver products. In the case of an information product, it may be suitable to create an e-book that could be downloaded instantly from your website; a hard copy of the information; an audio report; a video; or any combination of them. Provide value and good service, along with a unique approach to your niche so you stick out from the crowd, and you've given your customers a reason to return and buy from you again and again.
