Nickelback's latest album Dark Horse was released in November 2008, and the Canadian band is set to hit the road in North America in support of their sixth studio effort February 25 in Nashville. The tour runs through April 23 in Columbia, S.C. and will be supported by Saving Abel and Seether. The first single from Dark Horse, “Gotta Be Somebody,” has already sold 570,000 downloads in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Nickelback frontman Chad Kroger told http://Billboard.com that the band decided to wait until 2009 to tour because “we've been bitten too many times by going out too early. I'm always adamant about making sure there's at least a true rock song from the band that's gone to radio, just to give a more diverse selection of music for people to listen to.” Kroger continued to say, “We've been consulting with some people; I'm interested to see someone else's take on what this band could look like live, and we've had some real interesting stuff come back. Nickelback emerged in the early 2000s as the Canadian equivalent to Creed. Their commercially sounding brand of post-grunge rock first found success in 2001 with the single “How You Remind Me.” Although Nickelback would eventually garner four Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards, the band started with humble beginnings. Frontman Chad Kroeger enlisted his brother, bassist Mike Kroeger, guitarist Ryan Peake and drummer Ryan Vikedal to play in a band after moving to Vancouver. After officially forming in 1996, Nickelback released two albums, the Hersher EP and the Curb LP that year and began to manage themselves. They issued their second independent release, The State, in 2000 and it found a home on local indie charts. The distribution rights for the album were picked up by EMI in Nickelback's native Canada and Roadrunner Records in the States.

While on tour in support of The State, frontman Chad Kroeger wrote a bulk of the material that would end up on the Rick Parashar-produced album Silver Side Up. Led by the international hit “How You Remind Me,” Silver Side Up was Nickelback's most successful effort yet. In 2003 the single “Someday” ushered in The Long Road, which would eventually sell over five million copies worldwide. Shortly after its release, Ryan Vikedal exited Nickelback and was replaced by former 3 Doors Down drummer Daniel Adair.

The band then stepped in the studio to record the chart-topper All the Right Reasons, which eclipsed the popularity of Silver Side Up by spawning five Top 20 singles. The album would remain in the Billboard Top 30 for over two years and sold over 7 million copies in the U.S. alone. Veteran producer Mutt Lange approached Nickelback about recording their next album and the result was Dark Horse, the band's sixth studio effort, which was released this month.
