Whatever your thoughts about it, the iPhone definitely made anybody who makes mobile phones sit up and take notice. The simple fact that so many people were talking about it meant they were onto something special. But how will the biggest name in the business, Nokia, deal with the threat..?
Nokia - dealing with the iPhone threat
Last year was a time of big things for Nokia. Big mobile phones, big ideas, and big decisions. The first, and most probable thing you're most likely thinking about when you hear Nokia, nowadays, is their Nseries of mobile phones, multimedia powerhouses that, essentially, do anything. To this day, the biggest of that awesome range is the Nokia N95, one of the biggest sellers of 2007, and a truly great phone, as well. It had everything: 5 megapixel camera, awesome media player, GPS, and in its later incarnation, 8Gb of memory. It was a truly jaw-dropping device, and of the huge selection of mobile phones that Nokia make, that one was easily the biggest hit of 2007.
But Nokia got a huge shock in 2007 when the iPhone was announced, and people immediately started talking about it. The hype was incredible, and something was very clear: it definitely made Nokia up their game! In 2008, we'll see the fruits of their labour, including a selection of mobile phones with big touchscreens, a first for the Finnish giant. But before they arrive on the scene, there's another heavyweight contender aiming to take down the iPhone, and obviously, it's part of their stunning Nseries range: the gob-smacking Nokia N96.
Nokia N96 - mobile phones come of age
Yep, the Nseries is aiming for brand new heights, with the Nokia N96. We've seen before how such and such will be one of the best mobile phones, but in this case, it might actually be accurate!
Sitting within a sleek body, the most accurate way to describe the N96 is as an N95 in the shell of an N81. It throws away the hard edges, and clean lines of the N95, in favour of flowing curves and glossy surfaces, to give the image of a smooth, glittering jewel. There's no doubt, very few look this good! And then, when you look at its list of specs, it gets even better; Nokia have crammed in a 5 megapixel camera, N-Gage gaming, an even better media player, and crucially, the memory's been increased to 16Gb, which is just huge. All in all, the Nokia N96 is all set to be one of 2008's hottest mobile phones!
