The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is hands down, one of the best RPG's of all time. It simply must be played to be believed.
First, a bit of a background on myself. I am a fairly hardcore gamer. Video games have been a major hobby of mine since I was twelve and I am currently thirty-one. So when I say Oblivion is one of the best ever, that is no small statement.
Just how big is Oblivion? Well my friend has played the game for over sixty hours and is yet to even touch the main quest.
Oblivion is a free roaming game where you are dropped into a living breathing world, albeit a bit similar to something out of "Lord of the Rings". The people in the towns act like real people. They get up, go to work, and enjoy a drink at the bar after a hard day's work.
The major draw to this game is that you can do just about anything you can imagine, and I mean anything. Want to steal an apple from someone's house, do it. Want to make that apple a part of a magic potion...no problem. Heck, you can even create your own spells!
Want to advance in a particular skill? Like magic? then join the mages guild. Maybe you prefer stealing, then join the thieves guild. There is even the Dark Brotherhood guild, but I cannot speak of them here...
The graphics are incredible, the sound is awesome, and the action RPGish controls can't be beat. There is just so much to do, and just about every single aspect of the game is top-notch. All in all, I can't recommend this game enough. You must get it!
