I know there are quite a few different pedometers available at the moment, but there are a couple of very good reasons why you should pick an HJ 720ITC from Omron.
For a start, the HJ 720 ITC is one of the few pedometers to use the newer accelerometer technology to measure movement. What that means is that it's really good at recognizing what counts as a pace or a step.
What that means in practical terms for you and me, is that instead of having to mess about fixing it to your belt or whatever, you can now just drop it into your pocket, bag or purse and off you go. This might be a small improvement, but it makes a big difference to someone who is in a rush and making a quick decision about whether to take their pedometer with them or not.
And not only that, the HJ 720 ITC also lets you download all the information it collects to your own computer. It's got a short 7-day memory, and a longer 42-day memory. You can see the 7 day information on the pedometer itself, but then you can also download 42 days worth of information to your computer.
To complement the data download facility, the pedometer also comes with some software specifically designed to help you see it using graphs and the like. The software is actually the Omron Health Management Package and I think it also lets you view and analyze information from other Omron products such as their blood pressure monitor. This is invaluable if you intend to keep track of more than a few days worth of data.
I personally think the memory function is great and I use it to track my progress over the weeks. Also, I didn't realize it initially, but I find doing this actually increases the amount of exercise I do. It's because when I see I haven't done enough exercise, I feel as if I need to make up the difference, so I always do extra the next day. I'm fairly sure I wouldn't do that if I wasn't able to keep track over time.
I was just thinking, I know the Omron HJ 720-ITC is a great gadget for myself, but wouldn't it be a great gift for someone else? Why not buy them something that positively helps them maintain or improve their health? I think that would be a great way to show you really do care about them. Don't you?
