So you've heard about online dating, maybe even browsed a few online dating sites but you've not actually taken the plunge and set up your personal ad and given it a try? Are you, like many others, making excuses for not doing it? Are you a little nervous, or perhaps worried about what people might think? Here are some of the reasons people give for not giving it a try and the reasons why I think you should.
Online dating wouldn't be fair on my kids; When you have kids then they obviously come first but online dating need not have any negative effect on them. Whilst you shouldn't become carried away and exclude your kids from your life, having other interests is key in maintaining your relationship with them and making sure that you are not just a parent but a whole human being too. Online dating is actually a great way for parents to get back on the dating scene as it really doesn't require huge amounts of time and can fit in around your children.
I'll just wait and see if anyone turns up Whilst it's true that in days gone by people used to meet their partners through people they knew, at work etc. this is on the decline. In online dating, like most other things in life these days, there is now much more opportunity to meet lots of different types of people that you might never normally meet in your everyday life. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of the chance to meet someone completely different and who knows, they might just be your soul mate.
Nobody will want me; Feeling negative about yourself is not uncommon but it is unnecessary. There is definitely someone for everyone and online dating significantly increases your chance of meeting someone simply because of the sheer numbers of people who are online dating. Everybody is lovable and has qualities to attract a partner it's just a question of seeing yourself more objectively that's all.
I'll sign up for online dating when I've lost some weight / got a new job / feel fitter; Procrastination is something that we all suffer with from time to time. It's easy to say 'I'll do this when' but it is just an excuse. There is nothing stopping you from starting online dating now but not trying online dating is certainly stopping you from meeting any of the millions of people who are online at this very moment. By all means address the thing you want to but get on with your life regardless, finding love might be the trigger that makes you achieve your goal rather than the other way round, it's certainly more common!
Online dating is dangerous; There are some risks associated with online dating but there are risks associated with meeting anyone anywhere. There are also plenty of ways to minimise personal risk. There are plenty of places you can look to find out about online dating safety to find the best ways to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. But remember, most people are genuine, so after you've taken all sensible precautions, relax and have fun.
OK, do you still have a good reason not to try online dating? Or is it just another excuse. The best thing about online dating is it's relatively inexpensive, you can have some fun doing it and no one need ever know. Look at this way you can do it in your scruffiest clothes, without even having had a shower and someone could still see you as the most attractive person they've ever met, how cool is that! Give it a go you never know where it may lead!
