Today it is widespread among distributors in network marketing the notion that you have to know and learn the latest tricks and techniques in order to build a successful home based business using the Internet. The new trends don't always stay there and may prove that they are not so promising as they looked at the beginning. In fact they may get dumped at some point as they may stop bring any results any more and become completely useless.

Now imagine yourself having spent money and time on tools and courses in order to take advantage of what new have appeared at that moment that looked promising enough to invest your precious resources in it. Now it's again on the search for something else to take its place with a new round of spending and learning in order to master the latest trick. A continuous loop that you cannot escape from it as you get addicted to getting fast results and your business lacks the strong foundations that would help it survive as you never took the time to lay them.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe that someone has to be aware of what new is going on in his business field and occasionally dabble with new methods and techniques, but that should not be done at the expense of putting strong foundations in your MLM business by implementing the things that stood the test of time and still work today. They may not bring you spectacular growth and profits in a very short period of time, but nevertheless are a sure way for building your online home based business.

Most of the times in Internet network marketing and any other business field the new “smart” way may not help you succeed as much as what I call the “dummy” method.

The dummy method is about doing the basics that worked in the past and still do work. No matter how fast the web changes and how many new things surface constantly, in a way it still stays the same. If you rely on free organic search engine traffic, building websites with good content and building links pointing to them it still works today and will surely work for many years in the future. And you don't need any fancy new thing to build those links. Still things like writing articles and syndicating them besides sending you traffic can SEO benefit your website or MLM blog in the long run. Add some blog commenting and networking with other webmasters to make your site known to them and you may surprisingly get links from them provided your content is good. No need to restore to cutting edge technologies and “just hit the market” techniques.

Building good landing or lead capturing pages and buying the right traffic which consists of people interested in what you have to offer them is still the way to go. The most important thing here is to track your expenses and the lead acquisition cost for each traffic source so you keep the most cost efficient ones.

Occasionally, something new may come that you want to test or a method may become an established one that consistently bring results and you want to add it in your arsenal. There is nothing wrong with that and once you master the basics and you have made full use of them, trying different things is recommended and a natural thing to do since you constantly need to seek to improve your methods and techniques. But what you shouldn't do is to not pay attention to the basics and go full speed from the beginning to the new and promising and sometimes even exciting methods. Something that is promising is just that, promising, it is not certain that it would deliver.

So you don't always need to be smart or work the smart way when it comes to your online MLM success. The dummy method of resorting to the basics still works very well and bring results and sometimes it can shield you from unnecessary risk. The risk of relying too much on cutting edge techniques that may prove short-lived or fail to deliver what they are promising.
