The secret to opt in email marketing is targeted leads. Many marketer boast about the size of their opt in email lists, but does size really mater? The truth is that it's not the size of your opt in list, but the responsiveness of your list. You can easily make just as much money from a list of 1 000 as you can from a 10 000 list.



In the frenzy of trying to build a big list, many marketers make the common mistake of just getting as many sign ups as possible. Opt in email marketing targeted at your ideal customer will not only make your sales efforts a lot easier, but it really changes the way you approach email and opt in marketing. With a small, but highly targeted and responsive list, you will not only value your list more, but you will only make them decent offers and because they respond so well, you are less likely to offer them anything that will violate the trust between you and them.

When your opt in email marketing is targeted you greatly improve your chances of success. When you offer people exactly what they need and what they are looking for you will meet their needs and give them a reason to opt in to your offers. Once you establish a relationship with them and you establish yourself as both an expert and a friend you build rapport with your prospects. If you now make them an offer that will really help them with their problem, the whole selling process becomes effortless and it's not really selling at all, but it's more about recommending them something that will help them – like you would recommend something to any of your close friends.

Opt in email marketing targeted at your ideal customer is a vitally important concept in marketing. You are primarily there to help your prospects and to make their life easier and selling something to someone who really wants and needs your products is the easiest thing in the world. Trying to sell someone something they don't want or need is virtually impossible. The more targeted your marketing efforts, the higher your success rate will be. When you translate this to finances, it's important to realize that the money you spent on marketing and what it returns per lead is critical.

Acquiring sales leads will always cost you money, whether you buy it directly, through PPC or whether it's just an investment of your time. When you buy 10 000 leads, but only 1% ever buy something from you, then your list is actually only 100 people strong. If you can just have that list of 100 highly targeted and qualified leads you can greatly improve and enhance your marketing efforts. 1% just isn't a good conversion rate. Marketers that have highly targeted lists consistently average conversion rates of 20% and up.

Keep your opt in marketing targeted and you will really see the results. Not only will you help yourself, but you will also stay out of the way of those people who don't really want to hear from you. This can even cause you to be reported for spam. Don't just throw any old 'freebie' out there just to get sign ups and don't just rely on clever copy writing just to get as many people on to your list as possible. It's not about the size. Opt in email marketing targeted at your ideal customer is the smart way to do marketing. Marketing to a huge list of 'unknown' individuals can be a nightmare.

Focus your efforts, focus on helping those who will really benefit from what you've got to offer and don't be swept along by the lure of a ‘big list' just for the sake of it. When it comes to permission marketing quality is much better than quantity.
