Nowadays, a subject that it is raising a lot of controversy is organic foods. The debate is about what can be considered organic and what not. Some sustain the idea that organic foods are the foods which are grown naturally with no pesticides or artificially modified seeds. For others, organic has a deeper meaning, and even foods that are called organic are actually not like that.
Let's take as an example the pure raw honey. It comes from bees which are producing it naturally, but the plants that they get their pollen from might not be. So, do we consider raw honey organic food or not? We cannot confine bees and keep them in an artificial environment because it will be again disputed if the raw honey is organic or not. For this reason, it has been decided that honey is an organic product and it is healthy for humans to eat.
Although raw honey is healthier than sugar, there is a very inaccurate conception that it has less calories than sugar or that you won't put on wait if you use it instead of sugar. Honey used in excess will affect you in the same way sugar does. However, it is a bit safer because it's an untransformed product. We might not be able to call products which are grown without fertilizers complete organic foods, but this is the best that we can do at this moment.
Most people are aware of the benefits of honey over the human body, particularly during time intervals when it's affected by the common cold or by flu. Combined with lemon, it has a benefic effect on the throat and it usually helps in the healing of sore throats faster than drugs. Producers have always tried to improve the public face of organic foods, and make them seem more down to earth and not just an abstract concept. People need to understand that when they go shopping they have a choice: a product which is grown with fertilizers and is usually big, sparkling and tastes artificial or a natural grown product, which might not be as beautiful as the first choice, but definitely tastes better and is healthier.
An old saying says that clothes do not make the human that wears them, but the man is the one that makes the clothes. With a turn of interpretation, this should apply in our situation as well. The fact that a product looks perfect and attracts our attention shouldn't stop us from being impartial and think of our stomachs first and not our eyes. Everybody knows it is easier to eat food that looks good, but sometimes we should try to think what its effect would be on our organisms. Well, we get the nutrients we need, and compared to what is available on the market, is it the best option?
People that started to wonder about the way they eat and what they eat have started gathering this information and make it available to everybody who is interested, on websites, such as here, on rawbakery.com. Some producers have even specialized in producing only organic foods, and try to improve the quality of their products every day, so that they should offer the best and healthiest products.
Taking things step by step, trying to understand first why we need to change the way we eat, and then just taking the necessary actions is the best way to fight against the world trend of not carrying what and how we eat and in what quantities. The number of obese people is growing at an alarming rate, especially children, and this should be considered enough to try and educate people on how to keep their body and minds healthy and strong.
Organic Foods To Eat
While most people out there understand the value of organic foods there are plenty of issues that have brought criticism to that industry. You have plenty of people that find nothing wrong with the conventional methods that have been in place for so long. They feel that people aren't suffering ill effects from that process so why make a big deal about it. While they do admit that pesticides and other chemicals can be harmful if in large quantities they are confident in the processing they have to get rid of residue.
Some research shows that many organic foods aren't grown with only organic fertilizers. They feel that this is false advertising and that it portrays the process as one that isn't really as good at it is meant to seem. While this has been admitted it is suggested that what is used isn't full of harmful chemicals which is why it wasn't disclosed initially.
There is no secret that organically grown food costs more than conventional methods. For consumers that are already pushing the limit with what they pay for groceries they simply can't afford to pay for anything additional. While they would love to buy organic foods they just can't justify that additional cost into their budget. With the price of so many things increasing at the store that is definitely understandable. That additional cost can range from 10% to 40% than conventional food prices.
Many people don't realize the first time that they shop for organic foods that they won't last as long either. They rot faster due to the lack of preservatives that are placed on them as is done with conventional methods. That means by the time they are shipped to the store and you buy them you are running out of time to consume them. So not only are some people paying more for them but then they can't get any value out of what they purchased.
The amount of land that is used to produce organic food is more than for conventional methods. This is a very strong criticism of the process because people are worried that to give more land for this type of production there are areas that have to be cleared away. The average yield for the same area of land is 20% less when you are talking about organic foods. What is the long term impact of doing so on the ecosystems that reside within them?
Some of the harshest of critics claim that organic foods are nothing but a balloon full of hot air. They feel that this is a strong marketing ploy to scare people into buying foods that are made without chemicals. They worry that too much false information about them is going around and they want to stop it dead in its tracks. This can certainly make it very confusing though for consumes to know what is really going on.
It is up to each consumer to decide what to think about the various criticisms about organic foods. Are there real problems that make this not such a good method of growing food? Perhaps the conventional food industry feels threatened so they want to shed a bad light on this part of the food market. According to the USDA organic foods are free of chemicals and they are good for you to eat.
Yet they don't contain any additional vitamins or nutrients above other foods. Do you want to pay more for food that is good for the environment though? It really comes down to having the right information and then making a decision based on it that is right for your household.
