Step One: Find out what excites you

You might do your job because you have to earn your living somehow. Or you might have a profession that interests you. Yet, to become a successful entrepreneur, you have to find out what excites you. Something that makes you jump out of bed every morning. That lets your eyes sparkle when you talk about it. That makes you lose track of time once you plunged into it.

So, grab a piece of paper and a pen and write down seven things that come to your mind: hobbies, passion, life experience, job skills - anything that could become the basis for your entrepreneurship. Then boil it down to your three top candidates.

Step Two: Choose a proven recipe and the right tools

My mom makes the best "Black Forest Cake" you can imagine. When I tried to bake one, the results were mediocre. I asked her what her secret was. It was actually "using no secret" ... combining high quality ingredients, state-of-the art tools and a tried and tested recipe. Yes, you can achieve stunning results, whether baking a cake or creating a business, by doing it your way - but the chances you will fail are so much higher than by following a proven system. So, why take the risk? Let's face it; most of us do NOT have the genius of Bill Gates or Larry Page.
