Whether it is as exotic as a Caribbean paradise or as wild as retreat to Las Vegas, a destination wedding can be relaxing, enjoyable and memorable.
Choosing the Destination
The most important part of a destination wedding is, of course, the location! When it comes to deciding on the place you plan to have your nuptials, the number of choices can be overwhelming.
Researching a variety of wedding locations before you make your decision is very important. Before you can decide on a place, you and your fiance must first ask yourselves these questions:
What is the atmosphere and climate you want for your wedding?
Should it be hot so you and your guests can enjoy days of relaxation on the beach? Or comfortably warm so you can take tours of historic towns and cities?
Using online travel sites are great a way to get detailed information on all of your possible destinations. Once you have narrowed it down to two or three locations, a travel agent can further provide you with more information such as possible activities and accommodations for your wedding guests.
What venue should you use?
Before you choose the venue for your wedding, it is important to get an idea of how many people will be attending. When it comes to destination weddings, not everyone can afford to make the trip. Airfare, accommodation and meals can get expensive. After you have some idea of how many people you can expect to make it, it is time to start searching for a wedding venue.
If your wedding is going to be at a popular tourist spot, many hotels may offer you a discount on accommodations in their off-season. Do research into why it is the off season. For example, is it hurricane weather?
The more information you can get about different venues in the area, the less stressful it will be when it comes to choosing one.
Who pays for what at a destination wedding?
When you decide to get married abroad, the question of who is going to pay? will eventually pop up.
As a general rule, the bride and groom are expected to pay for costs associated with the ceremony and reception such as the reception and rehearsal dinner. Some couples also decide to pay for a shuttle to pick up and drop off guests at the airport as well as the accommodations for those in the bridal party.
Guests can expect to pay for activities not associated with the wedding such as meals and beverages other than at the reception and extracurricular activities. Guest attending a destination wedding also pay for their plane ticket if they are flying there and their hotel room.
Top wedding destination spots around the world are Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Dominican Republic, Fiji
France, Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico or
Tahiti
Plan A Destination Wedding
Destination wedding is becoming popular nowadays since planning for such a wedding is a lot easier than that in the past. However, a destination wedding is undoubtedly different from a formal one. As a result, the way to plan for it is also different. Here are some ideas you will need to know when you are planning for such a wedding.
The very first thing you need to consider is the destination of course. In fact you cannot just choose a location by your preference since there are some practical issues you need to consider. The number one issue you need to clarify is all the legal requirements and documentations. The process involved for foreigners to get married in another country will be different in different countries. Some countries may not allow foreigners to get married there. As a consequence you need to sort out all these requirements first. You may contact the embassy of the country you are planning for your destination wedding in order to gather the information. If all the legal and practical requirements can be sorted out, you can then think of the destination based on your preference. It will be totally amazing to have your wedding in front of a waterfall. It will also be very romantic to have a wedding on a beach under the sunset.
The weather in the destination country should also be one of the considerations. For example if you are planning to have an outdoor wedding in Hong Kong. It may not be wise to plan for a summer wedding since there may be storm and typhoon during the summer in Hong Kong. Of course it will be less problematic if you are going to have an indoor wedding. However, a day without storm and typhoon is certainly better for your big day. As a result, you have to think of it thoroughly before you make your decision.
For a destination wedding, it will be suggested to hire a wedding planner. You have to book for your wedding photographer, wedding cake etc. and it will be quite difficult for you to organize all these if you are going to hire local vendors in the destination country. If you would like to hire local wedding vendors in the destination country, it will be better to hire a wedding planner there instead of hiring different vendors one by one. Some wedding planners in the place you live may also provide services for destination wedding. If you are going to hire a wedding planner in the destination country, you will probably do some research in the internet. You should bear in mind that it is not that easy to have total control on something that will happen in other countries. You need to ask for every detail and make sure you will sign a contract with the wedding planner in order to avoid unnecessary arguments.
You may also want to have your honeymoon at the same place as your wedding. You will need to have a traveling plan. If you are not going to hire a wedding planner, it will still be a good idea to consult a travel agent in order to save your time, and also probably money.
