Back in the old days, if you wanted to plan a trip, you went to your local travel agent and told her where you wanted to go and she would produce a brochure or two with some nice glossy pictures. She would make all the arrangements, flight, ground transportation, hotel and tours. Man, have things ever changed!
With the advent of the Internet, all of that has changed. Well, you may still get your tickets through your travel agent â?? but only after you have gone online and checked prices at 4 or five different places to give you a rough idea of how much to spend.
You can no w go online and book your flight, hotel, ground transportation, and tours â?? all with a few mouse clicks. And you can save a ton of money doing it yourself.
You can also get oodles of information about anything and everything about the country you want to visit. When I go to Thailand, the first thing I do is go online and start my research.
I first check with my favorite airlines for their price for a few different dates. Then I check places like travelocity and expedia to see what their price is and finally I check a few local travel agents online prices to see if I can find a better deal. I also call around (the old fashioned way) and see if someone sitting in an office without an Internet web site can beat the price. I then get the flight I want at the price I want.
Next stop are the local, in-country, forums. These provide the most up-to-date information, along with pictures and trip reports, for the places I plan to visit. I can also ask questions and get answers quickly.
Then, I get out my checklist that I have compiled over the many years of my travels and make sure that I have everything ready to go. I stage the inconsequential stuff and pack the remainder a couple of days prior. I make sure I have some reading material, munchies, noise-canceling headphones, camera and of course, my ticket, passport and some cash. I also make sure that I have my Debit ATM cards fully loaded.
I have my friend take me to the airport and then I am off to the Land of Smiles.
Planning A Trip To
Taking a trip to Cyprus is a very worthwhile experience. It is one of the most beautiful locations found around the world. The time of year when you plan your trip is very important. While it is warm and sunny for the majority of the year there are a couple of months when it is quite rainy. This is fine if you are willing to spend your time indoors but most individuals want to spent time at the beach while they are in Cyprus. After all, the warm sand, sun and water are what makes Cyprus so attractive to so many people.
Getting a good deal on your trip is very important as well, and you can certainly save some money if you do your research. You can check with your local travel agent as well as the various package deals to be found online. In most cases you will get a better deal if you combine everything together rather than paying for your transportation and accommodations separately. You should take a look though to compare the prices. Don't pay for part of a travel package that you won't be using. If your travel dates are flexible you will be able to take advantage of various deals offered as well.
Make sure you pack plenty of clothes for your trip to Cyprus because you will find it to be quite warm in the afternoons and cooler in the evening. Pack a variety of clothes that can be layered or changed - sorts, long pants, short sleeve shirts, long sleeved shirts, etc. Many people forget to pack a sweater to stay warm on those cooler evenings. Since there are plenty of different activities to attend as well as many restaurants you will want to pack some casual clothes as well as something dressier for a night out on the town. Of course, you should always take your beach clothes!
The cost of living is quite low in Cyprus so you will be able to buy plenty of items in the various shops. Make sure you have room in your luggage to bring them back home with you. Most airports are strict with the weight guidelines for your bags. It is very expensive to purchase an extra suitcase from one of the airport shops in order to accommodate your purchases. Also keep in mind import and export restrictions, and duties when purchasing items to bring home.
