The time it takes to perform a plastic surgery procedure varies depending on the type of surgery. For the most part, cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are outpatient, so they will not require a hospital stay. Many procedures can be completed in an under an hour, but some take longer. Following are some popular plastic surgery procedures and the approximate time it takes to complete them.

-Arm Lift

Generally used to correct the appearance of loose, sagging skin on the arms, arm lifts are particularly good for people who have lost a lot of weight and need to tighten up their arms. The procedure usually takes one to two hours to perform

-Blephorasty (Eyelid Surgery)

This procedure removes excess fat, skin and muscle tissue from around the eyelids to give a younger, more rested appearance. Time for this procedure can vary from one to three hours, since it can be performed on the top, bottom, or top and bottom of the eyes.

-Breast Augmentation or Implant Removal

The enhancement of breast size through the insertion of silicone or saline implants is breast augmentation. This surgery can take between one and two hours. Breast implant removal surgery will last between 30 and 90 minutes.

-Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

A breast lift reshapes sagging breasts by manipulating the breast tissue. It can also be used to correct the shape or size of areolas. This procedure usually takes between one to three hours to complete, depending on the type of breast lift being performed. A full breast lift will take longer compared to the less invasive "Benelli" breast lift.

-Brow Lift

Brow Lifts will remove the appearance of deep wrinkles across the forehead, and will generally take between one and three hours.

-Buttock Lift

Designed for people with sagging skin around their thighs and buttocks, a buttock lift can give the rear area a more toned appearance. The procedure will last between two to four hours.

-Facelift

During this procedure, the plastic surgeon will make small incisions on the hairline or near the ear to tighten the facial skin and redistribute fat deposits. This results in a less saggy, younger looking face. Typically, facelifts will take at least three hours to complete. Sometimes they last longer depending on the amount of work the surgeon must perform.

-Fat Transfer

During this popular procedure, the plastic surgeon removes excess fat from problem areas, such as the thighs or hips, to redeposit it into a more desirable area, such as the lips, penis, labia or buttocks. Fat transfers usually take about one hour to complete, but can last longer depending on the specific circumstances.

-Laser Skin Resurfacing

Damaged or wrinkled skin can be removed with laser skin resurfacing. Often, this procedure is used in combination with a facelift to improve the surface of the face. When the laser removes the outer, damaged layer of skin, a newer, healthy layer takes its place. Time for this procedure is dependent on the area of skin that is being treated. Small areas can take just a few minutes, while larger areas could take more than an hour.

-Liposuction

Removing excess fat is the goal of liposuction. This process actually vacuums out visible fat from under the skin to create a firmer appearance. The technique used and amount of fat to be removed will affect the time needed to complete a liposuction surgery.

-Rhinoplasty

Better known as a "nose job," rhinoplasty can usually be completed in one to two hours.

-Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck procedure is used to tighten up skin around the abdominals. This procedure is not generally used to reduce abdominal fat, but can tighten the sagging skin of someone who has been through multiple pregnancies or who recently has lost a significant amount of weight. On average, this surgery will take between two and five hours to perform.
