Bathing suits are generally used to cover the genitalia of females and males. Men's bathing suits are called shorts, trunks, board shorts, jammers, speedo briefs and thongs. Sometimes, mean swim in cut-off jeans. Women's bathing suits are one-pice swimsuits, bikinis or thongs.
Women also wear bathing suits that are called monokinis. These bathing suits are a type of bathing suit that has just bikini bottom without the top. They leave the woman's breasts uncovered. South Americans and Europeans are the ones who generally wear monokinis. You generally will never see Americans wearing them on their beaches. They might be on American beaches where there is a strong European tourist influence. It is okay usually for pre-pubescent girls to go uncovered.
The type of bathing suits that they wear in competitive swimming is unitards. At some competitive swimming and diving events, they wear bodysuits that are called diveskins. These diveskins are made from spandex and provide little thermal protection. They are able to protect the swimmer or diver from stings and abrasions. Other competitive swimmers may also wear full bodysuits, jammers and racing briefs to assist their glide as to swim faster.
Sometimes, people rebel against bathing suits and decide not to wear them at all. There are special beaches for them where they can sunbath and swim in the way they want to: nude. The slang term for swimming nude is skinny-dipping.
Some people don't like swimming in the nude or wearing bathing suits. They wear trousers, underpants or T-shirts. These people will have no problem with wearing these things. The policy of a particular swimming poll might prohibit one of these forms of clothing.
Plus Sizes Bathing Suits
Everyone enjoys a good day on the beach or at the pool, be it to swim or just to enjoy the sun. Of course, it also gives you a chance to show off that new bathing suit you bought last week and haven't worn yet. Women like to know that their bathing suits compliment them, but not many realize that not all body shapes are fit for bikinis. Whether you are a size 6 or a plus size, bathing suits depend for the most part on the body type and bra type. What feels comfortable for you might not be comfortable for someone else.
For example, plus size bathing suits are harder to find than other sizes, and yet they are more important. For an overweight woman, the bathing suit she chooses can make her look very good, or very bad. A bikini is definitely not a good choice, and neither are stripes. Plain colors work best. A one or two piece bathing suit can be appropriate, as long as the two-piece covers the stomach. There are some bathing suits that have short skirts attached, which might be more comfortable in the long run and will go a long way towards making women feel better about wearing bathing suits out in public.
Fabric and bra type also affect the comfort level. Most swimwear is made of polyester, but some of them stretch more than others and those are the ones you want. Bathing suits that are too tight will chafe, and there is no need to worry that the ones that are a little looser will fall off; that won't happen as quickly as you might think. With regards to bra type, the suit can be under wired or have a soft cup or occasionally both. This depends more on what you are used to; neither of them is better than the other.
Whether your body shape is triangular or a classic hourglass figure, there is a swim suit just for you. A sports equipment store is a good place to start your search and if they don't carry the suit you need (and this sometimes happens with plus size bathing suits) simply try the department store closest to you. Chances are they'll have exactly what you're looking for. On the off chance that they don't, you can search for bathing suits online. Most online stores deliver directly to your doorstep, and you'll be enjoying the sun and water before you know it.
