First off, never start toilet training until your little guy is ready. This will only make the process longer and will frustrate him and disappoint you even more.
There is no specific age but you will observe signs of readiness by 18 to 24 months old. One of the signs is his curiosity about the toilet. He will want to know more about what adults are doing when inside the bathroom. He will ask questions and starting the training is your answer. You will also perceive at this time that your child will be annoyed when his diaper is wet. Thus, he will likely tend to stay dry for a few hours or longer at a time.
By the time the kid is geared up, you must be ready (and equipped) as a parent as well. Familiarize your child to using the potty. Make the process exciting and very appealing to him.
You can start with taking him out and letting him select the 'it' potty seat. Finding great colors and designs with a familiar character will be a great help. You can look for some "potty books or DVDs" as well that you can share with your child. These will be read or watched only during potty time.
Here's a great deal with most boys. The majority of them will want to sit while learning how to use their potties. Don't punish or force them to urinate standing up this time, let them adapt to use the potty first.
After he become accustomed with urinating sitting down and when he has mastered bladder control, challenge him that he is already a big boy. Then tell him that big boys use the potty standing up. He will likely follow you with this trick.
Confirm this with his other male friends or his daddy. Ask them to go with him to the toilet. By having examples, he may then decide to pick this up on his own.
By ensuring your child is already prepared to potty training before letting him with the actual training and taking your time with the process, you will definitely increase your success rate with your child.
Always keep things encouraging always and be optimistic! Give your boy a high five with every success and they will keep coming.
Keep the patience and in the days to come, you can throw off his diapers and see that little proud boy of yours going to the toilet on his own.
