Ipf Common Among The Smokers But The Results Are Opposite. Why?
by Sandy Tonsing, San

Smoking is that addiction that doesn't spare even a single organ of the smoker. He is troubled with problems relating to all the organs including the major ones. Instances of lung cancer and infact a number of other cancers are increased by smoking and these diseases are actually found in a larger scale in the people who are addicts to smoking. Lung disorders are common results of smoking.

One very important characteristic of any addiction is that inspite of being well aware of the fact that the addiction is killing the addict can't get rid of it. Till the moment when the person knows that he or she is dying of the addiction, the person more often than not fails to develop the will power to give up the addiction. However, as every rule has exceptions so does addiction. There are many who successfully give up addiction. But many people fail to give up smoking before it is too late. Only when it is too late do the people give up on the addiction of smoking. This trend also tends to unsettle researches and studies.

There is a lung disorder called the IPF, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a common disorder that is caused by excessive smoking. The mortality rate of people associated with both smoking and IPF is very high. Surveys however have shown an apparently shocking result. The people affected by IPF are more often than not the non smokers, the people dying out of IPF are also the non smokers whereas the disease is seen less among the smokers. But I have already said that the results of the studies are only apparently shocking.

There is a tendency among the people to give up smoking only when their life is threatened by a serious illness. Most of the IPF affected people were heavy smokers at some points of their lives. But after the diagnosis of the disease they gave up smoking thus rendering them as non smokers. But the people who are yet to get the disease continue to smoke and hence the percentage of IPF is seen to be less amongst them. However, in the latter group there are people who smoke even after being affected by IPF or for that matter any life threatening disease. This is the reason why I mentioned that the studies and researches can be extremely misleading.

Though there have been no count regarding the number of efforts that have been made in order to quit smoking, the results have not been that encouraging. That's why today there are no smoking aids like . People can and get rid of smoking with least of withdrawal symptoms. But can have side effects and hence it is advisable to have the drug only after getting the Chantix prescription.
