When deciding on a vacation look no further than the Lodge at Tiburon. This lovely coastal city is rich in natural abundance and history. Though Miwok Indians had called the area home for thousands of years, it was not until 1775 that the city got its name. Tiburon, which means "shark" in Spanish, was named by Lt. Juan Manuel de Ayala when he anchored in the peninsula. In spite of its menacing name, the area is one of the most gorgeous places in the world. The Lodge at Tiburon takes the term "customer service" to new planes. Guests are privy to five-star rooms, a grand business center, daily newspapers, and free wireless Internet. Amenities like fresh fruit and cookies give the Lodge a warm, cozy feel, while outdoors, the climate is perfect for nearly any activity. Enjoy the astonishing sun decks and the beautiful ground level pool as well. There are also great poolside private cabanas where you can enjoy a midday snack - or maybe even a nap. Once you are revitalized, the Lodge at Tiburon provides a one-hour cruise around the grand San Francisco Bay. This fun trip takes you under the Golden Gate Bridge by way of Sausalito, past Angel Island, and around notorious Alcatraz Island. You can watch dolphins, sea lions, and even sharks and whales while on board. If you are looking for a bit more excitement, you can disembark at Pier 39 in San Francisco and take in the grand old city. When you are done taking in the waves or sightseeing in San Francisco, you can sit down to a fabulous meal at the Lodge at Tiburon. The Three Degrees Restaurant is the newest full service bar and restaurant to open at the Lodge. Designed to be warm and cozy, the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining, with a rustic rough-hewn bar and a river rock dcor. The food, prepared by Chef Daren Robey, is a delicious fusion of seasonal fair and savory flavor. It is interesting that Three Degrees is the only restaurant in the area that serves no trans fats. The Lodge at Tiburon offers any amenity you could possibly imagine. Whether you need a relaxing get-away or you need some excitement, you can find it in Tiburon. The biking and hiking trails, ferry rides to the city, and access to the wilderness all make the Lodge the place to be when in the lush San Francisco area.
When my boss announced that our firm was holding a corporate-wide conference in northern California my first thought was "You have to be kidding." My second thought was, "My wife is going to hate me!" We live in a frozen, rural area of Maine and business trips had already forced me to be gone several weeks this winter, leaving my wife alone in the house with two active preschoolers. She was already dissatisfied with me. This would send her over the edge!
Then I found out the destination--San Francisco! Our conference at the Lodge at Tiburon would be minimally demanding with spouses welcome! My wife and I had long dreamed about the idea of a taking a second honeymoon to San Francisco. What ideal timing! After a long, icy winter, a few days in the mild California climate would be just what the doctor ordered.
Suddenly I was her knight in shining armor again. She immediately got the grandparents to come baby sit and started packing! We researched the area and knew what we were going to visit, but nothing prepared us for our lodgings. The site was amazing. It was easily the most distinctive place we have ever stayed. It was right on the San Francisco Bay, a lovely ride from the city.
The whole place had a homey, ambient glow to it. The Craftsman style has always been a favorite of mine, with its strong emphasis of wood and clean lines. The guest rooms were very comfortable. I felt as if someone had invited me to spend a week in their well-decorated home instead of in a normal, cookie-cutter hotel room. The amenities were fabulous, too-cushy robes, high quality beds, cookies in the lobby, and Craftsmen furniture. Outside there was a fire pit on the patio. We spent our evenings in the rocking chairs, making plans in the glow of the fire, rekindling our relationship.
San Francisco was all we dreamed it would be, and I can think of no better place from which to explore! The Lodge at Tiburon was ideal in everyway. I have never dreaded saying goodbye to a place more.
