By Shawn Horwood Unless you have been hiding under a rock or you are fairly new to the internet, you know that there are far too many "make money online" scams to count. Pretty much anywhere you look there are ads that tell you that you just sign up with these people and pay them a bunch of money, then all you have to do is tell a couple friends to do the same and all of a sudden you are raking in more cash than you could have ever dreamed of. These schemes are Multi-Level-Marketing or MLMs. Many people when they hear or read MLM they immediately think "SCAM!" and leave. Well, often these MLMs are scams. The sad truth is, you can't start making 7 figures by telling a few friends and trying to convince them to do the same. First of all, your friends and family will think it's a scam and will not listen to you, and if they do, then they will have a hard time locating people for their downline. When an MLM program states that all you have to do is tell 5 or 10 or 20 friends and then soon you'll be raking in the cash, don't believe them. Walk away. They are just out for your money. If an MLM program offers a great opportunity and is willing to admit that in order to succeed you will have to work, then it is a program to consider. Believe me, it is actually possible to make a lot of money in an MLM program. I know of a guy here in Canada who drives people down to Mexico and back on a bus a couple times a year and that is how he made income. I'm pretty sure he loves his job, but it doesn't pay that great because he doesn't state a price. He just says to pay him whatever they think it's worth. Some groups pay him well, but most pay him far too little. About a year ago he signed up with an MLM program, and now he's making more money than most people I know. If you understand how to make an MLM work for you, then it is possible to make 6 or 7 figures with MLMs. A lot of people will tell you that there is no way, but I am telling you, there is! You personally can succeed with an MLM! The first thing you need to realize when you are trying to convince your prospects is that you can't sound desperate! You should act like an expert, and like you don't really need them. You need an abundance mentality. If that prospect doesn't sign up with you then it's no big deal, you'll find another one that's actually worth working with. Consider this: Pretend you are a prospect and someone is trying to convince you to sign up with an MLM program. Now, if this person is pretty much begging and pleading with you to sign up with the program, are you going to listen? No! Of course not! If they are desperate for your help then obviously the program doesn't work! Instead, what if you were listening to them and they sounded confident, they knew what they were talking about, and they weren't bothered by your skepticism, now what would you think? I know I would be much more likely to listen to the second example, so that's the first thing to remember when you are explaining your offer to prospects. The next thing you need to realize is that people don't want to be pitched another business opportunity. They don't want another business opportunity shoved down their throats. They are being exposed to new business opportunities all the time on TV, on the radio,on the internet, from friends, from strangers, everywhere! Everyone has a business opportunity that they want them to sign up for. So now you're probably thinking is, then how do I get them to join? Simple. You pitch them a solution for their problem. You are not offering an opportunity here, you are offering a solution. Let's look at it this way, how many people purchase weight loss pills because they wanted more weight loss pills? No one! People buy weight loss pills because they want to lose weight! Their problem is that they are overweight, so if you are trying to sell someone a weight loss pill you don't tell them "Buy this weight loss pill". They have probably already tried other weight loss pills and found that they don't usually work. Instead, you tell them that you have a solution to their problem. You tell them that if their goal is to lose weight, that this is how they need to do it, by buying your pill. If you just tell them that you want them to buy your pills, they are going to inform you that you need to go scam someone else, even if it isn't a scam. But if you tell them that you are going to help them achieve their weight loss goals, well then that's a completely different story! People will be much more inclined to listen to you if you tell them a solution to their problems. Mike Dillard says: "No one who bought a drill wanted a drill, they wanted a hole". So if you are trying to make an MLM work, remember, it is possible! Don't give up! You just first need to remember that you need to position yourself as an expert and you need to market a solution to a problem, not another business or business opportunity. Now, I am not an expert on MLMs, so I will admit that there is more to it than what you have just read. That is just the basics.
