Link Boosting
by Samuel Blankson, Sam
A common goal among web site owners is to improve their site's page ranking in as many search engines as possible. There are many ways to achieve this goal. One way is link boosting. Link boosting is when a web site owner uses links designed for their own site to gain popularity and rank higher among search engines. Web site owners use inbound links to increase their link popularity.

Inbound links are hyperlinks on web pages that lead to another web site. They are very helpful in terms of SEO, and it is important that inbound links are on sites that are high quality, high ranking, and relate to the content of the original page. If the inbound links meet these criteria, your campaign to improve your site's page ranking will also bring more quality traffic to your site therefore increasing your profit margin. If you are unsure what a high ranking website is, this is easily solved by downloading a ranking tool bar, which can easily be found online (and most of them are free), or going to Alexa.com which provides fantastic information on site ranking.

There are many different sources a web site owner can use to place their web site links on another page. These sources can include:

* Press releases - online news articles published on sites such as prweb.com

* Online articles - written reports published on sites such as goarticles.com

* E-zines - magazines published online and distributed through e-mail or a web site

* Discussion groups - online forums, users can post comments on a variety of topics

* Social networking sites - an online site where users create a profile and connect with other users such as MySpace.com, Facebook.com, and blogs.

Each of these sources provide a way to circulate a particular web site around the internet. The more sources used the more traffic clicks on that web page. Inbound links are just one way to optimize a web page, and are becoming extremely valid in relation to the above marketing activities. You really can't afford to miss out on these.

Although the sources mentioned above are extremely effective and very simple, traffic will be generated at a slow, steady pace which is ideal. Traffic increasing at a slower steadier pace will ensure that your site does not get flagged by search engines. Jumping from zero links to 1000 links quickly may alert some search engines that something suspicious may be going on which in turn may cause your website to be flagged. I am still recommending cross-linking using the avenues above, but I am just recommending caution in your strategy to make sure this is at a steady pace, consistent, and long-term.
