Antibiotics That Enhances The Extreme Spread Of Bacteria Identified Recently As Killer Disease
by Ben Needles, Ben
The bacteria was confirmed as the cause of deaths
in a number of cancer and liver disease infected
patients. The recorded datas of patients
grew by 50 percent last year.

Medical personnels noticed that the bacteria is
gotten from pigs by humans. The
antibiotics applied in agriculture in large dosages must have aided the mutation and spread of
the resistant strain of the bacteria.

Definition of ESBLs?

Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) are
enzymes made by certain types of
bacteria, these enzymes causes the bacteria to
resist the antibiotics recommended to treat them.

ESBLs were discovered in the mid-1980s. During that
era they were mostly noticed in the
Klebsiella species of bacteria, in hospital
intensive care units. Before now, few people
were infected by these mutating bacteria and it
never appeared to be a major growing pandemic.

The level of awareness given to let people know a about the disease has improved because the disease is seen as a scourge. however.
British Health Protection Agency (HPA), recently a
announced the identification of a new class of ESBL (called CTX-M enzymes).
they are being widely detected among E.Coli
bacteria. These ESBL-producing E. Coli resist
penicillins and cephalosporins, and
are often seen in urinary tract
infections.

Other species of bacteria that produce
ESBLs include:

K. pneumoniae
K. oxytoca
Salmonella
Proteus mirabilis
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
The Problem is Worse Than You Think!

A research published October 2007 in the Journal
of the American Medical Association(JAMA),
there existed almost 100,000 sufferers of invasive
methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
aureus (MRSA) in the United States in 2005,
this is equivalent to more than 18,600 deaths.

To put that number in real analyses, HIV/AIDS
killed 17,000 people that year.

Antibiotic-resistant disease IS a terrifying man-
made crises.

This result motivated MRSA in the
media last year, with the addition to a number of
school outbreaks that occurred at that time.
Discussions focused largely on reducing medical
excess use of antibiotics, practising proper h
hygiene such as washing your hands with soap and
water to reduce the spread of infectious disease.

But the rampant over use of antibiotics in
animal husbandry is not being curtailed and this
is the a major means of human consumption
hence the high antibiotics resistance by these
bacteria.

Source of Antibiotic Resistance

Both MRSA and ESBL have been traced back to
animals raised for food production, such as pigs
pigs.

These animals are regularly fed antibiotics at low
doses to prevent disease and boost their growth.
Animals known receive antibiotics in their feed
gain 4 to 5 percent more body than animals that
are not fed with antibiotics, but the consequence
is high for the consumer of such meat, since the
practice creates the perfect enviroment and
conditions for antibiotic resistance to flourish.

Denmarks health officials admitted theyre not
informed on how farmers and veterinarians, who do
eat infected meat, become infected.
However, studies cited on Johns
Hopkins website, shows the main reservoir of these
organisms is the lower digestive tract, and
they can survive within the gastrointestinal tract
for months. This means the answer may be not
very complicated.

Thus, the meat industrys practice of using
antibiotics is indeed a compelling force
hastening the antibiotic resistance in a variety of
bacteria that cause human disease.

The stalemate on this issue made a
struggle between strong science and bad politics.
The FDA finally banned the use of fluoroquinolones
a widely used class of antimicrobials from
farm use in August 1997 meanwhile, the
Bayer Corporation vehemently protested in
opposition. After all, antibiotics for livestock
use is big business. It makes up about 70
percent of antibiotic use! This cannot be
replaced with human consumers even if
they tried to create the market

Other Agricultural Sources of Antibiotics

Conventionally raised chicken is another heavily tainted meat product that should be properly planned. A study in 2006 published in the Journal
Infectious Diseases showed resistance was from the
conventionally raised chicken and from people who
ate the chicken containing Synercid,a strong
antibiotic used to treat antibiotic resistant
bacteria. this means, it can attack and resist
the last lines of defense presently available in
the modern medicine cabinet.

It showed that it was difficult to find resistant
bacteria among antibiotic free chicken, while the
larger populace of bacterial isolates from
poultry were resistant.

But, the result of using antibiotics in
agriculture continues. Antibiotics migrate
through the food chain in not so known ways.

Antibiotics are forwarders, via
manure, into your food supply.

A 2007 study in the Journal of Environmental
Quality showed how food crops
compile antibiotics from soil covered with
antibiotic-containing manure.

In a greenhouse environment, corn, lettuce and
potatoes grown on soil containing hog
manure with a commonly used veterinary
antibiotic added shows the harvest.

The antibiotics were absorbed by all three
crops, into their leaves and tissue.
Furthermore, the antibiotics also spread to
the potato tubers, this means that root crops
like carrots, radishes and potatoes may be
specific at risk of antibiotic accumulation.

These datas unfortunately also have
influence on the organic farmers, who use
manure as their main source of fertilizer. Manure
is still allowed under the organic label even
though it has antibiotics.
Ways To Avoid Excessive Antibiotic Exposure

We ensure that the food we feed to ourselves
and our familes is pure and healthy.

We may grow it personally, or we should
get to know a local farmer near us -- one who
practises non-toxic farming methods. Those living
in urban areas, there are many
community-supported agriculture programs available
that provides us with healthy, locally grown
foods irrespective of our location in the city.

In the search for a safer alternative to
commercially raised beef we must check
out grass-fed beef. Grass-fed cattle are not
constantly fed antibiotics. They may be given
the medication for an infection, but that is a
rare exception, and they are meant for a few days.
