For many, prom is more than just a fantastically exciting event. It is also a time of worry and frustration. How is it that prom can be so scary? This is often not your fault. In fact, many of those who are feeling overwhelmed are feeling like this because of all the pressure that is put on an individual on their prom day and all the days leading up to it. After all, everyone calls it the most important day of your young life. How can it not be something to be scared of? For starters, you will want to realize that this is a special day to you, and you alone



One of the things that makes prom so scary is the high hopes for this day. You likely have pictured the perfect dress, the perfect hair and of course, the best guy on your arm. There are so many high hopes that it can be scary to think that you cannot make it perfect. Perhaps the right person does not ask you to the prom. Maybe you cannot seem to find the perfect dress. Many things can go wrong. Therefore, to reduce some of the fear, it is best to start planning for prom without any expectations. Just doing this will help.

Another part of prom that is often scary is what happens afterwards. There are plenty of risks here including alcohol and sexual situations. How will you avoid these problems? A good idea is to plan to have something else to do instead. For example, it may be best to go to the after prom so there is no risk of exposure to the drinking. If something is worrying you, find a way to resolve the problem.

Other aspects of prom can be worrisome. What about that first dance, who will you sit with? What if you do not like your date after you get there? While all of these things are things you are worrying about, so is everyone else. Realize that to make prom the best it can be, you have to just go with the flow. Relax and allow prom to be as special as it is, when it happens. If there is any situation, you are unsure of or worried about, talk to your friends and family about it.

Prom should be a lot of fun and can be one of the best days of your life. If it has been overwhelming you to this point, though, take a step back and hang out for a day. Have fun doing something you love and then come back to planning for prom. You will feel better about it, then.
