We have all been on some pretty terrible dates. Some have been with the biggest time wasters, while some others have been so embarrassing that I try never to think about them. Did these dates occur because I was bored, I let me guard down, was I lonely, or did I just date anyone, even though I knew I was not compatible with him? If so, then obviously I dated these men for the wrong reasons. And I was a complete idiot for doing so.



Let me assure you that there will be a decent amount of men that you are not compatible with: for instance, time wasters, idiots, liars, and just plain weirdoes. But that is what happens when we date. We never truly know who people are until we have a chance to talk to them and see how they interact with other people. So remember, when you are scouting for Mr. Right, chances are that you are not going to strike on the first try -- but it is not impossible either. Dating is very much like the lottery. We never know what we are going to get.

In my experience of dating, I have encountered complete idiots, losers, arrogant and pompous personalities, men that were politically incorrect, and others that had no idea what they were doing. My largest regret involving these dates is losing all of that wasted time and spending all of that money that I could have spent on something much more valuable. The second largest regret involves dating those idiots that strung me along, while they tried to figure out their own lives or were too confused or scared to commit to a relationship. But the biggest waste of time was dating the men that lied and thought I was too na've to figure them out.

Here is a personal example of a horrendous date:

?I met this guy at a nightclub. He was really cute, the quintessential pretty boy. He seemed really sweet and down to earth, too. One afternoon he came to where I live for a lunch date, which was one hour from where he lived. During the date, the conversation was terrible. He said repeatedly, ?Oh well! What can you do?? Then he continuously talked about how he dated a woman that was ten years older than he. He told me he missed her and that he wanted to see her. After the bill came, he told me he had nine dollars in his pocket and that he expected me to pay the bill. I looked at him and asked, ?You came without any money? If you didn't have any cash, why didn't you tell me before?? He said, ?Well, I wanted to see you and I figured you would take me to lunch.? Then after he asked me for money for gas and cigarettes so he could get back home. After, he told me that he wanted to see me again and that he thought that we should date exclusively. It was not the fact that didn't have any money, but it was more of the fact that he expected me to pay right off the bat. I thought that was really crass.

Now that you know you are not the only one that has experienced a bad date or two. Try not to be bitter. Just look at all of these instances as learning experiences. As for the men that lie to impress you, just forget about them. They are time wasters. Try to be a little more receptive to the men that you date, so you can weed out the losers and men that are incompatible. It will eliminate the amount of headaches you get.

Remember: all of us have kiss toads before we get to our prince.
