Rural Living Close To The City

    View:
Menangle is home to the Menangle Markets, running every Sunday, and offering a huge array of trash and treasure from over 250 stalls, that is sure to see everyone (even the most pickiest) pleased. Menangle Markets' trading has been suspended temporarily while a brand new 1400 metre race track is built at the Menangle Park Paceway, part of the huge complex that also includes Menangle Park Showground (home to the annual Campbelltown Show).

But the Menangle Markets are set to open in 2008, bigger and better. Stay tuned and mark the day the Markets reopen with a bang - you don't want to miss out on Menangle's big day!

Campbelltown Show has been held annually for 109 years, and 2008 promises to be huge, with the opening of the new paceway at Menangle adding some new and exciting features to the complex. The Campbelltown Show at Menangle Showgrounds has all the atmosphere of a real country show, plus the things we have come to expect from such an annual event - showbags, fairy floss and rides. But, there are still the livestock and farm equipment to please the country-at-heart city dwellers. Become a member of the show's society and be guaranteed access all weekend to the Menangle Showground, plus you get to help make a decision on the annual showgirl! But even if you don't join, you could easily spend a day or two at the show, taking in the new and improved Menangle Paceway. What's more, Menangle rail station is right at the paceway/showground, so you don't even need to bring the car (not that there is any shortage of parking - there's plenty at Menangle!).

Right next to the train station at Menangle is a little old store selling all things antiquey - from old wares and crafts to a general store, all manner of things can be found just off the train at Menangle. Be sure to pop in and browse around.

Menangle's dominant family back in the day wee the Tabers. The patriarch, Thomas, arrived in Sydney Cove in 1796, and some years later it was George Taber who built Menangle House. After a time, the Tabers were so prolific that their name dotted the hills in and around Menangle. Thomas Taber's wife's maiden name was Medhurst, and it is after her that the property Medhurst Vale was named, and later, (in 1977 after a request by the family) Medhurst Road. Thomas was one of the first schoolmasters in the Menangle area at the time.

Menangle only has one official park, Menangle River Reserve, and it is here that the locals like to keep secret a water hole used for swimming in the hotter months - discover it for yourself at Menangle today.
