Safe Acne Treatment During Pregnancy

    View:
You skin looks so beautiful and glowing! That's what is exclaimed by many, when a woman is pregnant! Almost all would-be moms will get that heavenly glow on their skin when they get pregnant. As they enter their second trimester their skin starts looking smoother and finer day by day. This is possibly the single big advantage of undergoing pregnancy. However, many women are deprived of this amazing feature and more often they aren't so lucky. Although many pregnant women acquire that pristine and clean complexion, many women end up with having ugly patches of acne and its dreary aftermath.

A pregnant woman with acne on her face needs special treatment that is safe and uncomplicated to her body. Though there are several acne medications and drugs available, they can't be simply trusted to work with absolutely safety on a pregnant woman.

Is it possible to find a safe and long-lasting cure for acne in pregnant women? Well that depends on how you choose your treatment. Obviously there is only one way to find it out- that's practically trying one of the selected treatments. However, with uncertainty over the drugs used, you may never like to take a wild chance. After all the health of the unborn child is absolutely important than the acne treatment.

The first thing you should do if she is suffering from acne breakout is to consult a qualified dermatologist for further clarifications. She can also seek expert opinions by going online over internet help forums and health web sites. On the flipside, you may never get an unbiased opinion when you start enquiring on your own; the best way to seek an unbiased opinion is by approaching your personal physician.

If you're serious about eradicating those ugly acne bumps, get serious and start getting to know more about acne treatment and its after effects. But, you'll need to exercise enough caution while undergoing acne treatment as findings after findings suggest that acne drugs may not be really good for a pregnant body and an unborn child.
Safe Acne Treatment During Pregnancy
Some of the medications that are to be avoided during pregnancy are: Vitamin A derivatives, Tetracyclin Antibiotics, Hormones and Salicylic acid preparations. Acne in pregnancy is very common, whether you have previously had acne or not. It is most common in the first three months while the levels of hormones are increasing. Progesterone is more androgenic (male hormone-like) than oestrogen and causes the secretions of your skin glands to increase, which can lead to more acne

Pregnancy sometimes brings on acne or makes it worse. Higher levels of hormones called androgens can prompt the sebaceous glands in your skin to get bigger and boost production of an oily substance called sebum.

This extra sebum, combined with the shed skin cells that line your hair follicles, blocks your pores, creating an environment in which bacteria can rapidly multiply. All this eventually leads to the inflammation and skin eruptions of acne.

Always talk with your health care provider before taking any type of medication for your pimples. Some medications that you will definitely want to stay away from include:

* Tetracycline (an oral antibiotic that has been linked to poor bone growth and discolored teeth in babies)

* Salicyclic Acid (a common ingredient in over-the-counter acne treatments)

* Tretinon (sold under the brand name Retin-A)

* Isotrentinoin (sold under the brand name Accutane)

* Pat your skin dry and within five minutes after showering put a layer of oil-free moisturizer on your skin.

*Take extra care not to rub near your outbreak as it will smear the bacteria and you will experience more zits.

Pregnancy Skin Care Tips

Fortunately there are steps you can take to keep your skin in tiptop shape even with acne during pregnancy. While you may not avoid acne during pregnancy, you can do your best to maintain a healthy pregnancy glow. Here are some tips for maintaining your best appearance during pregnancy.

1. Always get plenty of sleep. Getting enough sleep will allow you to look refreshed and will help keep your skin healthy and less wrinkle prone.

2. Use sunscreen religiously. Even if you don't suffer from melasma, your skin is more sensitive during pregnancy. You should always use a moisturizer or sun block with an SPF 15 or higher.

Is there any way I can prevent acne during pregnancy?

No. You can’t predict it and you can’t prevent it. In most cases, the skin clears up after the first trimester, or after giving birth. In the meantime, there are things you can do to take care of your skin safely.

Tips to reduce acne during pregnancy:

There are some quick tips to reducing acne during pregnancy and still protecting the health of the baby:

* Clean you skin to keep it oil free during pregnancy.

* Use an oil absorbent microfiber cloth while washing your face to absorb the oil from your face while gently cleaning.

* Keep your hands away from the acne and rub gently while washing to keep the potential for spreading of bacteria to other parts of your body.

* Daily exercise would increase the blood circulation flow thus helping the skin to tone and become healthy.
