Kitchens are places where women spend a huge portion of their days. In the process, they not only come across hot surfaces and liquids but also have to handle sharp knives which may lead to unexpected injuries. This is why, it is important to practice these safety tips in the kitchen.



1.The first point to remember is to never keep children or pets in the kitchen. It is okay if the child is helping you out, or is interested in learning to cook. Pets and kids are not only distractions, but they also hurt themselves by putting down hot pots and perhaps tripping you when you work in the kitchen.

2.Never hold babies or children in a kitchen; it is not worth the risk. Make sure you enforce a rule for children to respect the kitchen. So don’t encourage any horseplay or fighting in the kitchen.

3.Never attempt cooking in a rush. Make sure you allot sufficient time for your cooking so that you don’t end up rushing to finish cooking. Move hot pots and pans slowly and carefully and never run from one station to another. It is always better to save a few minutes in kitchens than spending a few days on the bed because of an injury.

4.Kitchens have to be worked in when you are fresh and mentally alert. Don’t attempt to cook or bake if you are under the influence of alcohol or any medication. You may become sleepy, and cause some accidents.

5.If possible, wear shoes when cooking. This ensures that knives that accidentally fall of kitchen tops don’t end up giving you a wound. In addition to this, you have to wear safe clothing when cooking. Use short sleeved clothes, avoid loose clothing and never wear synthetic or flammable clothing when in kitchens. They only lead to unexpected and unwanted accidents.

6.Don’t attempt to carry hot utensils, even with its handles when in kitchens. It not only leads to burning of your hands but can also cause accidents. Instead, use hot pads or oven mitts, especially when you are removing stuff from the microwave. Never use hot pads or wet clothes to lift hot vessels as they transmit heat.

7.Never enter a kitchen if you don’t know how to handle knives. Knives have to be treated with respect. Make sure your knives are always sharp as blunt ones may slip and cut. Always chop with your free hand holding the food and your cutting hand curling its fingers around the knife. Quick chopping is not advised till you confident enough to do it.

8.Kitchens should always be dry to prevent unnecessary accidents. So wipe up spills immediately to not only prevent accidents, but also to make your kitchen cleaning time shorter. Be careful of not only water, grease and food, but also of cooking sprays. They make the floor slippery when sprayed on the floor.
