Scar Treatment For Acne

    View:
However, no matter how sophisticated dermatologic treatments are, absolute restoration of the skin cannot be assured most of the time. But it can actually enhance the appearance of the skin as best as possible.

There are various scar treatments available today. And to carefully decide what treatment is best for you, it is recommended to seek a professional dermatologist to help you choose the treatment according to your skin type, as well as your budget.

Some dermatologic treatments for acne scars include:

1. Laser Treatment

Lasers are available with different intensity and wavelength that are utilized accordingly to reform scar tissues. A vascular laser may be used for reducing the redness of acne scars. Layers of skin tissues may be removed to flatten scars with the use of a powerful carbon dioxide laser. Permanent results may sometimes be achieved with a single treatment only but redness may effect after a laser treatment, which will however fade away after a few months.

2. Collagen Injection

Collagen is a fibrous insoluble protein found in skin tissue that keeps skin elasticity and strength. This normal body substance is injected underneath the skin to raise sunken scars, by stretching and filling them out, to the level of surrounding skin. However, the effects of this treatment are only temporary, usually lasting three to six months, thus requiring supplementary injections at additional charge. It is also important to note that bovine collagen may cause allergic reactions to some individuals.

3. Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a procedure done under local anesthesia, which uses a wire brush or burr (also called fraise; a diamond wheel with rough edges) in removing the upper layers of the skin. The burr or brush rotates with high speed, taking off the destroyed layers and leveling the surface of the skin. Such process may injure or wound the skin, causing it to bleed. However, as the injuries and wounds heal, a fresh layer of skin develops to replace the removed damaged skin. Dermabrasion may result to pigmentation changes in darker-skinned individuals, which may require further treatment.

4. Autologous Fat Transfer/Micropilo injection

This is a procedure wherein fat from an individual's own body is taken and injected under the skin to raise sunken scars. Autologous fat transfer or micropiloinjection oftentimes require to be regularly repeated as fat reabsorption in the skin usually takes an average period of six to eighteen months.

5. Skin Grafting

Skin grafting is a surgical technique wherein skin substitute or skin is positioned over a wound as a permanent replacement of missing or damaged skin or to temporarily provide a covering for the wound. This procedure may only be essential in certain cases, such as in the closure of unroofed or defective sinus tracts that are sometimes caused by Dermabrasion.

Acne scars are oftentimes hard to prevent. And when they appear, all you can do is to treat it promptly and appropriately. Scars caused by acne can be treated in several ways, one of which is the dermatologic treatment. However, always remember the importance of consulting a dermatologist first before undergoing any kind of treatment.
