Congratulations! Losing weight can be challenging for most people, and while it is a great accomplishment, it can create a significant wardrobe problem. You now have a closet full of clothes that are too big, and it is expensive to replace every item. Selling your used clothes is a great option to generate funds to buy new clothes in your slimmer size.

If you would rather donate your used clothing items, there are a number of charities that are desperately looking for lager and plus sized clothing. If you have professional clothing to donate, consider giving it to Suited to Succeed or Dress for Success. Both of these charities provide used clothing for people who are looking to get into the workplace, but who cannot afford to buy the proper interview attire. For the rest of your clothes, consider donating to a local charity. Be sure to get a receipt when you drop off the clothes to use when you file your taxes in the coming year.

If you would rather sell your used clothing items, you can sell to a local consignment shop or resale shop. If you have some plus sized clothes, be sure to search for a specialty store since you will get a higher price for the clothes then if you try to sell to a more generic resale shop. Be sure to talk with several retailers to negotiate the best overall price for the items that you have for sale. If you have some newer items that are in good condition, you will get a better price with a consignment store than a resale store.

If you decide to sell your items online, you can choose to sell them to an auction site or through a consignment shop. The consignment concept works in the same manner as the physical consignment shop. Search for a reasonable commission rate and a reputable site to work with. If you use an auction site, your items will either be sold individually, or in lots (groups of like items) to the highest bidder. For both types of online stores, you will be required to ship the items to the Buyer once they are sold.

To create a great online sale, you will need to create an effective item description and listing. To start, you will need great pictures of the products that you are selling. Next, you will need to take a digital photo that you can upload onto the site. Next, you will need to write a solid item description. Be sure to include as many details about the items as possible, be honest about their condition and remember when you are writing the description that you are trying to sell something. Lastly, you will need to select a price. Compare your item with other items for sale online to help you choose the best price possible.

Selling your clothes that have become too big for you to used clothing stores is a great way to clean out your closet and make some extra money in the process.

There are many ways to donate used clothings to charitable organizations so as to make a difference and improve people's lives. The United Way, the Salvation Army, and Goodwill are just a few of the many organizations that accept donated clothing, so that you can begin to both get rid of excess possessions that you don't need and help other people today. These groups make it very easy for you to give your clothing donations to them, and many of them give you the option of deducting the value of your donated clothing from your taxes as an added incentive. Of course, the tax deductions are very small, so you might do best to just simply drop it off and not worry about the few bucks that you save.

Of course, my favorite ways to give out clothing donations are a little more direct than this. I live in Berkeley, California, where there are many things called free boxes available for public use. The free box is basically a wooden or metal container into which all manner of things that people want to donate can be placed. But primarily, it is used clothing. Then, people in the neighborhood can come by the free box, rummage the clothing donations and pick out the things that they want and need. In many neighborhoods, particularly the ones with lots of homeless students, homeless people, or both, you can even simply place your clothing donations on the curb. People will come by and take what they want, sometimes within minutes, and provided that you have good clothing, very little will go to waste.

The best way to insure that your clothing donations are not wasted, however, is still to take them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, or some place like that. That way, they will be able to keep them on the shelves until somebody comes along who might have a use for them. With the popularity of thrift store shopping nowadays, these non-profit organizations have the opportunity to use almost all of the donated clothing that they receive, since the chances are that in any reasonably large city, someone is going to want is. Of course, sometimes it is best to put your clothing donations in a free box. After all, the free box is free ? a fact that is sure to be appreciated by the clothing's new owner right away.
