There are many blog postings available online advising consumers on how to spend less on gasoline but some of them are a waste of tme. One that I saw had as its first suggestion... "don't drive" and another one was to move your residence nearer to where you work. It might save you some gas but do you need me to tell you that? Another bit of advice that I saw from one of my fellow internet bloggers was
"use lower octane, it's less expensive!" DUH! I am going to try to provide you some tips here that you can actually use and that are not things that any driver with a high enough IQ to be driving knows like "don't use sand paper for an air filter" and such.
SPEED: There is a lot of math involved in this. But gas dissipates exponentially the faster that we drive and even more so when we get going above 65 mph. The best speed for gas mileage is the lowest speed in your highest gear which is most commonly in the range of 40-50.
STOP AND GO: Take off slowly from a full stop. I know it isn't as entertaining especially when you want to take on that "Beemer" in the lane next to you. But demonstrably this will provide the
biggest gain in gas mileage.
SHADY DEALINGS: Park your car in the shade. Gas actually will evaporate right out of your tank if you let the car bake in the sun!
CARPE DIEM: Seize the best times to buy gas. Gas is statistically lower priced on Wednesdays. Buy gas three days before a Holiday and avoid the greedy "bump" that oil companies always beat us with on days that they know will have heavy traffic.
IN A HURRY? If you are not in a hurry to get home after work then avoid rush hour. It will save you money on gas and give you a happier attitude towards life. But you already knew that.
