Most successful online businesses realize that when orders are placed from your website, it's only good manners (and good business) to acknowledge and show appreciation for that purchase. One way to do this is with the use of an automatic responder that can be integrated with your shopping cart. In fact, many shopping carts that are available today have their own autoresponders built into the system.
When you set up your autoresponder to send a message to someone that has placed an order, there are several things that should be included in the message. This is an opportunity to 'speak' to your customer, and to let them know about other deals that you have or special items that you have available. You should not miss this opportunity.
Do not try to get your 'thank you' sales message on the same autoresponder as the customers email receipt. Putting the sales message on an email that is automatically sent to grant the customer access to their purchase is also a bad idea - that would go better with the receipt. Make sure your 'thank you' sales message is a message that is sent out all by itself, so your customer can focus solely on that!
Thank the customer for their recent purchase. Tell them how much their purchase will help them, and then tell them about other available products that work well with the one that they just purchased, or that are similar to the one that they just purchased in some way. For instance hair conditioner works with hair shampoo.
Vacuum cleaner bags or carpet powder works well with vacuum cleaners. Just let them know about the various products that you offer that will compliment their purchase in some way.
The important thing is to not let your customer get away without further contact! Think about being in a brick and mortar store. When you go up to the counter to pay, there are many items there for sale. These items are meant to be picked up as last minute purchases, or impulsive purchases. Your 'thank you' sales letter serves the same purpose.
Don't make the mistake of bombarding your customer! You can usually send them periodic information about your specials after they have made a purchase through you, but emailing them on a daily basis with your offers is not good business!
Use your automatic responder responsibly! Make sure it's set up to handle automatic remove requests, and make sure that the information that you are sending your customers is of value to them.
Shopping Cart With Wheels
Business on the web is always a fine balancing act between opposing sides. As an illustration: managing an online store requires strong security to keep out hackers and other criminals, but it also requires you to make yourself and your location on the web very well-known. Another example is the fact that while an online store itself has zero square feet, the warehouse space required to fulfill the worldwide demand for products is actually quite large. And last but not least, if a site actually appears to be fun, rather than a business website, many times it will outperform similar companies with more serious websites.
That last one is interesting. No matter how sweet or goofy a site looks, in order to be successful in online retail, it must have use of an ecommerce solution that is "all business" about protecting the store and its customers. As the site's visitors begin to browse the merchandise and select items for purchase, they see the first part of that ecommerce solution, the shopping cart. The shopping cart can be dressed up in a pink t-shirt to camouflage its serious nature, but underneath it still must wear a suit and tie.
It 's common for retail websites to skimp when they shouldn't. The shopping cart is an easy, useful tool that can do all the work for your online store software. By listing a total of your purchased items, including sales or discounts, and initiating a safe and secure payment all in one central place, the customer's shopping experience is greatly enhanced.
Those are the basics for a simple shopping cart package. Some provide additional intelligence regarding average customer data, browsing behavior, and purchasing trends. Mostly though, the website needs the cart to turn the inventory from pictures on the site into inventory numbers that can be tracked, and from there into prices that can be calculated.
The payment details are then provided to a firm which processes the payment. This is done by billing the credit card of the buyer and then depositing the transaction amount in the seller's account. All of these should be done through channels which are verified to be anti-fraudulent and free of risks for the consumer. Secure online transactions require constant upgrade of electronic commerce software to keep up with new kinds of threats.
It's fun designing a site for your online store that's filled with pink t-shirts and other frivolities. However, you also need to feature suits and ties in the business end of things, such as the accounting and security parts of your business. While dressing your functional aspects, be sure to think about adding a sweater vest, cuff links, a top hat, or a monocle to give your business a solid feel.
