Every mother I have ever known has prayed for an "EZ labor". Unfortunately, and this is especially the case in first time moms, the birthing process is anything but easy! Still, if you do your homework, have a plan of action and implement it, you can make the birth of your child easier on you than it otherwise would have been. Many expectant mothers are plagued by questions surrounding how painful labor actually is, whether or not to get an epidural, if non-medical techniques can provide enough pain relief to get you through the process and more. Others are just absolutely terrified, which is totally and completely normal.



The trick to having an EZ labor is to be as educated as possible about the birthing process, because when you know what to expect you know how to plan ways around certain things. Also, the more you know the less likely you are to have panic attacks when you think about the pain you'll be going through. One thing a lot of women experience when going through labor is getting physically sick. Drugs or no drugs, lots of women find themselves vomiting more than they'd otherwise prefer. Some drugs, however, cause more nausea than others and include nubain, demerol, morphine, diluadid and stadol. These are all narcotics that can contribute to ill feelings, and if that's a concern of yours you might want to avoid them all.

When it comes to preventing feelings of sickness and having the most EZ labor possible, you should look into sucking on a hard candy or taking anti-nausea medications. As far as pain goes, you're more likely to experience greater levels of it if your pregnancy is induced. So, naturally, if at all possible you might want to avoid that. Water birth, on the other hand, some women swear by and others avoid. Looking into whether or not it is something for you might be worth your time.
