Solar Power Residential Homes

    View:
Solar power is one of the cleanest ways to produce energy. The solar panels convert the energy of the sun into energy that we can use--with no negative impact on the environment and no harmful byproducts. When used for residential purposes, solar power can provide hot water, warm pools and room heating. We can also get energy to cook with. Though installation of solar power equipment for residential purposes requires an investment, it pays back over a reliably short period of time. If your home is supplied by solar power that covers only 50% to 70% of your power needs, the savings are substantial, over a period of time.

The benefit of solar power systems is that they can be installed to complement the existing, conventional power systems already in our homes. During times of extreme heat or cold, solar heating and cooling systems can be supplemented with conventional heating and cooling systems.

Using Professional Help

Depending on the type of solar power chosen, a do it yourselfer can easily install a home water heating system for $2,000 or less. You can choose systems that can store power in batteries. The stored power can be used later for heating, cooling, cooking, lighting and uses. Many DIY-ers are quite creative in using re-cycled materials to set up their own solar power generating systems. Obviously this comes at a reduced cost.

However, building your own solar power panels from online designs, using recycled materials, carry no guarantee against performance. Commercially available solar panels, which you can install yourself to save money, will still be covered by a warranty.

If you are all thumbs, you can always use the services of a qualified and licensed professional contractor to set up a solar power system for your home. This will cost more than doing it yourself, of course, but like all solar power systems, it will pay for itself over time. Make sure that your contractor offers a warranty against assured performance standards.

Most people who install solar power in their residential homes do it to heat water for their pools. Normally, large rooftop arrays of solar photovoltaic panels are installed to heat pool water and provide heated water for other household needs.

Residential Solar Power and Local Regulations

Before deciding to install solar power in your home, you should check the local regulations. Some states offer rebates or or tax credits. If your solar power system generates more electricity than you can use, it can be fed back into the local power grid and your electric account credited.

Cha-ching!
Solar Power Residential Homes
Solar Energy can be a good source of alternative energy for household use, resulting in savings on electricity bills. In fact, using solar energy is a practical way to provide energy to your home. What's more, it is also environmentally friendly. When your home is designed to capture solar power you will be able to take advantage of solar power which can later save a good sum of cash on your next energy bill. Just about any home can be redesigned to tap on solar power with very little modifications. You can build a solar power house that will save you a lot of money in the future as you use solar power to heat your home, pump and heat your water and also to provide energy to your home to power your appliances and lights in your home naturally and effectively.

Where to Build

The location where to build your home is your first consideration. For one, this has bearing on other building aspects, such as window installation. It is advisable to assume that sun rays come from the south side of your home. This area should be the place to setup most of your windows. In that way you can maximize sun rays in getting thru your house. You also need to make sure that there are no trees that are directly close to the house that may prevent the sun from shining directly into the home.

Getting the Sunlight

Adding a solar source is a must requirement. A solar power designed boxdraws the solar heat for transformation into energy for household use. The products that it takes to get this accomplished will cost a little more than if you built a standard home without using solar power. The good thing about solar power is that it is an initial investment, so this is the only energy cost you will have. When you totally rely on the sun to heat your home and perform all the other energy functions you will not have a monthly bill because you don't pay for the sun every month like you do with other power sources.

Other Advice

- Avoid dark color choices for home decoration. Instead use bright and light colors that will attract the heat more evenly and benefits you more.

- Use ceiling fans to reduce the amount of time you may need to run your air conditioner. Ceiling fans can produce a more even amount of heat and air without having hot and cold pockets throughout the home.

- Utilize metal insulated doors which can bar cold temperature and attract heat.

- Keep the doors closed during the time of day that the sun is shining in on your home in order to save the heat inside your home longer.

- For better heat absorption, apply darker colors on the exterior of your home like applying tint on windows.

- Have a back up energy system. This may be more applicable in the early phase. Ultimately, you will be relying entirely on the solar power source for your household need. Thus, it pays for you to know the extent of energy to power your home.
