Sore Throat Herbal Remedies

    View:
Depression is a severe medical condition, one that is brought about by a chemical imbalance in the brain that leads a patient to feel extreme lows and highs. When the low points hit, the patient is unable to take joy from anything, and often lacks the energy to participate in any of the activities they once enjoyed. There are many prescriptions now available through your doctor to combat this serious condition, but some people may want to try alternative measures that are closer to nature and more affordable. Here are some herbal remedies that some people claim work to combat depression, but keep in mind that the author of this article is by no means clinically qualified to ascertain their effectiveness, nor should this advice be taken to refute that of a qualified professional.

St. John's Wort: This plant has been used for millennia to remedy a plethora of conditions, of which depression is just the latest. It is the most commonly applied herbal treatment for depression. This plant is native to Germany, where it has been used for over 40 years to treat depression. The plant is native to Europe, and is plain in appearance with little yellow flowers. It is these flowers, when properly dried and prepared, that are used for the various applications of St. John's Wort. It has been known to be prescribed more than twenty times as frequently as Valium or Prozac.

SAMe: S-Adenosyl Methionine is an amino acid. It occurs naturally in our bodies and is known as the mechanism by which healthy neurotransmitter processes are carried to our brains. Increasing the amount of SAMe helps to increase the amount of serotonin, dopamine, and phosphatides and to improve the receptive abilities of the site.

5HTP: This amino acid is important to our bodies as it is transformed into serotonin, one of the strongest neurotransmitters in the brain. As clinically depressed patients are low in serotonin, a boost in 5HTP is known to be effective in combating depression symptoms.

Gingko Biloba: Gingko Biloba is an antioxidant, that is effective due to its ability to increase blood flow throughout the body and to the brain. The increased blood flow leads to increased neural responses, which includes the elimination of the lethargy that accompanies feelings of depression.

Ginseng: Ginseng is another herb that has been used for centuries to combat an array of afflictions. Ginseng use originated in Asia, and the market for this plant there remains strong to this day. This herb is called an adaptogen, which means that its qualities help adapt the body to various conditions.

There are various herbs and natural remedies that can assist a person in overcoming their feelings of anxiety and depression. Because this condition is such a serious one, however, it is always best to take these alternatives after consulting your doctor about their viability and appropriateness to your particular case.

Dandruff is an irritating scalp condition that causes white flakes to appear in the hair and on the head. The flaking is generally caused by the presence of dead skin cells, and the flaking and itching associated is often a chronic and irritating condition to deal with.

No single cause for this disorder has yet been identified, and it is not clear why some individuals experience getting this while others do not. Among the possible factors or causes include fungal infections, allergies, stress, hormonal imbalance and the frequent or imcorrect use of harsh shampoos or other hair-care products.

Common Types Of Dandruff

There are two common types of dandruff, dry and waxy dandruff. An itchy scalp usually describes dry dandruff, as the small, white scales are generally attached to the scalp or are loosely scattered in the hair.

Waxy dandruff arises when the scaliness of the epidermis is mixed with sebum, which causes it to stick to the scalp in patches. Dandruff may be caused by many factors, and among the contributing factors are poor nutrition, zinc deficiency, yeast infections, high use of alkaline soaps or shampoos and some types of fungus.

Herbal Solutions For Effective Dandruff Treatment

Flaky, itchy hair and scalp. These are the common nuances associated with persistent dandruff. Here are among the available herbal remedies that can be easily bought and used for effectively treating this itchy and embarrassing condition.

- Fenugreek. Natural medicine advocates suggest utilizing fenugreek seeds to treat

dandruff. A few tablespoons of these seeds need to be soaked overnight in water, and then ground into a paste the following morning. The paste should then be applied to the affected skin and left on for at least one hour before washing out.

- Teatree oil. Teatree oil is a herbal antiseptic that contains substances called terpenes. These antiseptic substances are known to penetrate the top layers of the scalp, making teatree more potent than a host other topical treatments. Try mixing a few tablespoons of teatree oil in with your favorite shampoo, but be careful not to get the mixture in your eyes or mouth as consumption of teatree oil is very dangerous.

- Soybean. Soybean is known to have very high in levels of biotin, and that is a major reason why it is effective in the treating dandruff. A diet high in soybean and other foods containing biotin, such as garlic, oats, avocado, and corn, could be an effective initial step in any treatment program for dandruff.

- Licorice. Licorice has Glycyrrhizin, a component that reduces the amount of oil produced by the scalp. Some dandruff cases are caused by excessive oil, and keeping oil production to a minimum is all that is needed in keeping dandruff under control. Add licorice to vinegar and use it as a hair rinse every time you shower.

The widely-used treatments for dandruff generally includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines and shampoos. However many of these treatments are expensive and may not work effectively for certain types of individuals. Biotin is considered to be an effective treatment for dandruff, and experts recommend taking 6 milligrams each day for the prevention of this condition. Today, there are many herbal solutions available and are often considered effective in the treatment and prevention of dandruff.
