The South Florida Bulls have been holding their home games at the Sun Dome for quite a while. The 10,411 seat facility first opened its doors to the public in 1980. Costing on $12 million to build, for nearly 25 years, the Sun Dome hosted both the men's and women's basketball home games.

In 2005-2006, upgrades were made to the Sun Dome which included refurbishing the roof with a steel-frame geodesic dome roof that was constructed from over 3,000 beams that weighed more than 400 tons. Also a part of the upgrades were new high-definition score boards which were placed in the four corners. R. Buckminster Fuller is responsible for concept behind the geodesic dome. Fuller discovered that a triangle can withstand pressure better and is twice as strong as a triangle. Fuller also discovered that a spherical structure which is created from a triangle has unparalleled strength. The Sun Dome's architectural design was based on these discoveries by Fuller.
