All windows operated PCs have what is known as a registry. This is basically a huge database of information which the operating system uses to run the machine. Over time as the computer is used the registry will become choked with excess data which will cause it to run slowly and to be balky in operation.
This overload of entries in the registry is the result of everyday use of the machine. Every time a program is installed or uninstalled it has a set of instructions which are kept in the registry. Often some of this material becomes separated from the program and will add to the accumulation of material which is in the registry. Incompletely installed programs, dead drivers, unused files, useless shortcuts and much more will cause the registry to become bloated and inefficient.
The operating system must navigate its way through this maze of useless data to find the entries it needs to run the machine and programs. This results in slow balky operation of the computer. Freezing and the occasional crash are other symptoms of this problem.
The solution to this is to remove the unwanted material from the registry. This can be done manually using the Regedit function which is installed in all windows PCs. Just click Start,Run and type in the box Regedit. The program will then be available for you to edit your registry. You select the entries you want removed and delete them.
Doesn't that sound easy?. Well it is easy if you really know the registry and what should be in it. If you are very computer knowledgeable you can easily edit your registry this way. However if your knowledge of the Registry is limited you should not attempt it. If you accidentally remove one essential entry you may disable your computer completely. This is needless to say not something we want to happen.

A good registry repair application will first backup your registry so that it can be restored if necessary. It will then remove all unecessary material from the registry and leave it lean and fit once more.

Speed Up Slow Computer
Over a period of time a lot of fragmental data entries build up in the registry. This causes a noticeable slow down in the operation of the computer. It will often be slow to boot. It will be slow in surfing the internet. It may freeze or show error messages.
What is the computer registry? The simple answer is that it is a huge database of information which the operating system uses to run the computer and programs. As the computer is used, many fragments of useless information are left in the registry. These entries come from programs which were never completely installed, programs which were not properly uninstalled and various other sources. There may be unused drivers, useless shortcuts, never used files of all kinds and a wide variety of other data.
All of this excess material chokes up the registry. This makes it difficult for the operating system to navigate its way through the registry to find the data it needs. The result is slow running, freezing and even the occasional crash. The longer you leave this uncorrected the worse the problem becomes. More and more useless entries corrupt the registry as time passes.
The simple solution is to clean the registry and remove all the unwanted data. How is this done? Well it can be done manually with the Regedit application which is installed in all windows PCs. Just click on Start-Run and type Regedit in the box. This will bring up the application which you can use to clean the registry. You must first back up the registry so that it can be restored. Regedit supplies the backup function. Then you can edit out any entries from the registry. It is quite simple--just pick out the unwanted entries and delete them. It could not be easier.
But is it really that simple? It is quite easy to edit the registry if you really know what you are doing. If you are the average computer user, the contents of the registry are probably a mystery to you. You will have no idea what to remove. If this is the case, be very careful indeed.
