I hate to be the one to tell you this, but sports blogs are a dime a dozen, and most of them aren't even worth that much. You've undoubtedly come across your fair share online, but how do you know if they are any good? If you're looking for an opinionated take on your favorite sports team, sports blogs can be a great place to go. However, before you get ahead of yourself and save the first one you come across to your favorites, you should be looking for a few criteria.



Does the blog provide a unique perspective?

Blogs that use humor, sarcasm, or other unique approach are often the most successful. If we were honest, we would admit that most people don't read blogs for breaking sports news. For that, they visit prominent sports websites. Blogs offer something those sites do not: openly biased opinions.

How often is the blog updated?

How often a blog is updated is usually a good indicator of the author's commitment to the site. If it takes them a week to post, you are probably better off spending your time online somewhere else. A good number to look for is at least once a day, give or take as the news around the subject warrants.

Does the blog cite sources?

Whether the blog is designed to be taken seriously or not, most respectable bloggers make a point to link to their source material in their posts, allowing the reader to verify the information for themselves. If these links are missing, it is difficult to tell whether or not the blog is trustworthy, specifically when it comes to trades and rumors.

When taking your first glance at a new blog, use these criteria along with your own personal preference to be sure that your time spent reading will not go to waste.
