Spot The Difference Kids

If you look in Scripture, you'll see something intriguing. All the members of the Trinity work very hard at glorifying each other. The Father glorifies the Son in Matthew 3:17, when God says, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." The Son glorifies the Father, as we see in 1 Corinthians 15:28, "the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all." And the Holy Spirit glorifies both the Father and the Son.

All three members of the Trinity make it a habit to revere, respect, glorify, and build each other up. They work hard to magnify the other members. And you never hear them speak ill of each other.

Of course, we humans have a lot of imperfections that the Trinity doesn't have. These are very easy to focus on in day-to-day life. But we can help our children's view of their parents simply by "glorifying" each other around the house.

Your children learn a lot about how to respond to you by watching how your spouse responds to you. If you're constantly talking bad about your spouse, your children will pick that up and do the same thing. But if you're building up your spouse's reputation to your children, they'll pick that up instead.

In Proverbs 31, we see that the Godly wife's husband is "known in the gates" of the city. The connotation here is that part of the reason he is there is because of how she lives and compliments him.

In that same chapter (verse 28), we read that the husband and kids speak well of her. It says, "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

So dads, tell your kids how great their mother is. And moms, tell your kids how wonderful their dad is. Don't just say it in generic terms.

Give some detail. Tell them why your spouse is wonderful. Is it because of how hard they work? Or how wise they are because of something they did? You can also tell them stories that build your spouse up in their eyes. Maybe something about when Dad was a hero, or Mom helped Dad learn something. Things like this will help your kids develop a deep respect and love for their parents that will last the rest of their life.

And when you're reading through the Scriptures, watch for how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit build each other up. It will increase your reverence, awe, and respect for God Almighty. And tell your kids what you learn -- it'll do the same thing for them.
