Sometimes being in a rock band can take a toll on band members. This is exactly the case with frontman Aaron Lewis from Staind. The band has been forced to cancel their December 8th appearance at Toronto's Sound Academy due to what is reported as bronchitis. It is the time of year for colds and flues, and fighting off illnesses is never easy when one is constantly on the road. Lewis is apparently under orders from his doctor to rest for a minimum of three days. As of yet, no other dates have been cancelled, and Staind is next scheduled to perform at the Fillmore in Detroit on December 10. Staind is a well known American alternative rock group that hails from Springfield, Massachusetts. They self-released their first album, called Tormented, in November 1996, but only made available a few thousand copies. Since Staind has become more well-known, the band's official website has re-released the record in order to satisfy demands from fans.
Staind's big breakthrough in the mainstream music industry came in October 1997 when Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst saw them open up a show for his band. Durst then signed them to his own record label, and in 1999 the hit album Dysfunction made its appearance to an awaiting public. It sold well over two million copies in the U.S. alone and is especially well-known for its successful single, “Mudshovel.”
Staind went onto tour with Limp Bizkit during the Family Values Tour in order to promote their material, and Lewis and Durst took the stage in order to perform Lewis' work-in-progress “Outside.” The reception that the song achieved further pushed their smashing success Break the Cycle. The album reached the number one spot on the charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. and established Staind as a highly regarded band internationally. One of the tracks, “It's Been Awhile,” became one of the most sought after singles of 2001. Other hot tracks found on the record include “Otherside,” “For You,” “Epiphany” and “Waste.” In a matter of no time at all, a pair of Staind tickets was selling out quickly around the country.
Staind continued on through the early and mid 2000s and released Shades of Grey, another notable success, which debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. They followed with Chapter V, which included the hit songs “Right Here” and “Falling.” Afterwards they released The Singles 1996-2006 which showcased all of their best songs since their inception as a band. Their most recent release, The Illusion of Progress, arrived in August 2008.
Although Staind started out as virtually unknown, they climbed through the ranks of the music industry to get where they are today, and after releasing six albums to date they show absolutely no signs of slowing down in the least bit. Keep your eyes peeled for future concert dates and be sure to check in advance to make sure that all of the band members are in good health.
