You may be among the increasingly number of people that are thinking of starting a nonprofit organization. If you are, you are probably familiar with the concept of nonprofit events, thinking that this is the way you will make money for your organization. Here are examples of how charity events can bring you enough money to launch your organization and to make a name from day one. Starting a nonprofit organization is not easy. In order to make money you must convince people and other organizations you are worthy of their money.



This is why it is very important to have a good start ? and what better way to do that than charity events? As the hardest part is finding businesses to sponsor your event, try to find celebrities that are willing to help you. For instance, you could do a 5 kilometer walk and run ? this kind of event seems to attract a lot of people. The run will work if you know a lot of runners, especially ones involved with running clubs that can help promote your event. Once they agree to participate, it will be much easier to convince corporate sponsors to help provide prizes and awards for your participants.

The run or walk is a great example of nonprofit events, because your initial investment is pretty low, compared to some of the others. As well as that it does not take a lot of work compared to other events that would bring the same amount of money ? let's say a carnival (this is a good money maker but you need a larger amount of money to invest in it). Just check for conflicts with other events on the same date, and try and have a little something that differentiates yours from the others.

If your nonprofit organization focuses on community problems you may consider yourself lucky. There are so many charity events ideas that can easily bring you money. For instance, softball games (people in the community versus city officials) and block parties are great fundraisers that will have people talking about your organization for weeks! You can get approval from the city for an all ? day event featuring guests (officials, public people and famous ones) doing what they are good at. Like in the case of many nonprofit events, food can be donated from local restaurants and Deli's and even from the community.

When working with the community, make sure you listen to all suggestions; people love being asked for opinions, and you may be surprised to see where great ideas and collaborations come from. If you live in a small community you could consider a number of charity events, instead of just one. This way it will be easier to raise a large sum of money. Make sure you can organize two or three events that can involve the whole community ? let's say a football game (for the dads), a picnic (for the families) and a block party (for everybody).

This way your first two events (successful, of course) make for good word of mouth and a great potential for achieving your goal. Not to mention they are all outside activities ? passersby can see what you are doing, find what your organization is about, and decide to help you.
