Strong Arm Lift Supports

    View:
The effects of aging, weight loss and other processes over a lifetime inevitably results in physical changes to your skin ? changes that can be seen not just in your face, but over your entire body, and especially on your arms. Arm skin is surprisingly tough, but over time it will become thinner and stiffer due to the natural loss of collagen, the connective, elastic tissue found in the dermis (underlayer) of the skin. Sagging, stretched skin is the result ? a circumstance especially common in those who have lost significant weight.

Fortunately, unsightly and uncomfortably sagging arm skin can be corrected. The procedure for this is called arm lift surgery.

Arm lift surgery, also known as an arm tuck or as brachioplasty, is a type of surgery that tightens the skin of the upper arm by removing excess and/or sagging skin. If successful, the procedure gives the arm a smooth and natural appearance. If subcutaneous fat is present, liposuction may also be used to remove it. Once the unwanted skin is removed, the surgeon stretches the remaining skin tautly back into place and secures it with stitches.
Strong Arm Lift Supports
Doc, I hate these wings! This is a common refrain heard by many Plastic Surgeons, from patients who complain about the redundant, excess skin and fat of their upper arms. There are many reasons why patients develop this problem. Weight loss, the aging process, after Gastric Bypass Surgery and various medical conditions all can be the cause. The common complaint is that the skin and soft tissues hang creating an unsightly appearance even when the arms are fully covered. Short sleeve shirts and blouses can leave patients feeling embarrassed and constantly aware of the issue, but there is hope! An Arm Lift, or Liposuction, or both, may be the answer.

Over time the skin, muscle and soft tissues of the body begin to progressively lose their tone and the supporting ligaments begin to stretch. The aging process causes people to lose the elasticity of their skin, a process that is accelerated by sun exposure and smoking. Then there is gravity, the ever-present force that causes the tissues to sag. In addition any weight gain over the years cause further stretching, loss of elasticity and sagging. Many people ask if this can be reversed by exercise and the answer is, no. Exercise only tones the muscles. Unfortunately, exercise does nothing to improve skin tone.

Patients who are candidates for an Arm lift include people who have: Loose skin of the upper arms - Had significant weight loss - Excessively full upper arms - Embarrassment from redundant upper arm soft tissues.

Patients should always begin with a thorough consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. A plastic surgeon will meet with you to examine you and fully assess your needs. He or she will make a recommendation as to which treatment, such as an Arm Lift or Liposuction may best serve your needs.

An Arm Lift is usually performed under general anesthesia. Before surgery, the amount of skin and fat to be removed will be estimated and markings will be placed accordingly. Unlike most physicians, Dr. Lent places the incision on the underside of the arm in a location making the resulting scars as inconspicuous as possible. On some occasions the incision can be placed in the Axilla (armpit). Prior to surgery, all patients are asked to avoid any medication, which thins the blood, such as Aspirin, for at least two weeks. Patients are told to avoid exercise and heavy lifting for at least six weeks after surgery.

Like all medical treatment an Arm Lift is generally a safe procedure, but there are risks. The risks include bleeding, infection, skin injury and the risk of anesthesia. Under the care of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, every effort will be made to prevent and minimize risk to make your outcome a successful one. It is very important that smokers quit smoking and using nicotine products for at least one month before and for at least one month after surgery.

An Arm Lift is an excellent way for men and women to tighten and lift their upper arms. This can result in a more youthful and firmer appearance. Patients are usually thrilled at having their wings removed, giving them greater freedom to wear normal clothing again and participate in all physical activities. Most importantly, patients comment on their renewed sense of self-image and self-confidence.

To best understand all of your options, a full consultation with a plastic surgeon is recommended.
