Don't worry about the sophomore slump for country music teen queen Taylor Swift, as her sophomore album Fearless recently debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums chart. Swift scored the best sales week for a country album in a year, since the Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden release last November. Released by Big Machine, Fearless sold 592,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Swift also notched six new entries in the Billboard Hot 100 subsequent to the release of her album, led by “White Horse” at Number 13. The 18-year-old country crooner will undoubtedly take her show on the road to support her album, so check out http://www.stubhub.com/taylor-swift-tickets for Taylor Swift tickets.
Taylor Swift hails from Reading, Pennsylvania and was raised on a healthy appetite of country music stars like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and LeAnn Rimes. When Swift was just 11 years old, the ambitious and aspiring singer marched to Nashville with her demo tape, eventually persuading her family to move to Henderson, Tennessee, a suburb of Music City, when she was 14. Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records caught one of Swift's shows and signed the young singer to his up-and-coming label. In 2006 Swift released her first single, “Tim McGraw,” which was followed by an eponymous debut album. The music video for “Tim McGraw” was an instant success and Swift's star was beginning its ascent to the top.
On the heels of one smash single, Swift continued the trend with equally successful songs “Teardrops on My Guitar” and “Our Song,” and in 2007 she became the youngest artist to win the Songwriter/Artist of the Year award at the Nashville Songwriters Association. Prior to releasing her sophomore album, Swift scored another hit with “Love Story” and the hits just keep on coming. All the more impressive is the fact the nearly all of Swift's songs are penned by her! She recently told Rolling Stone that she simply “can't stop writing songs,” so the young star is sure to churn out many more hits in her career. Swift also told the famed music mag that she has written some 500 songs, but only a fifth of them wound up on Fearless. As you may have guessed from Swift's recent media rant about her breakup with Joe Jonas (through a 25-second phone conversation!), most of her songs are about boys. Swift's penchant for turning her diary entries into successful singles has sure paid off and she doesn't plan on stopping, telling Rolling Stone, “I like writing songs about boys and relationships. And when someone breaks up with me, I like to write about it, because I feel like I have the last word. That's the fun part.” Take that, Joe Jonas!
The young star has sang the national anthem at the World Series and even played with Def Leppard, her idols. Swift just wrapped up a tour with Rascal Flatts but plans to headline her very own tour in 2009 and you won't want to miss it! Get your Taylor Swift tickets soon!
Taylor Swift Love Story Single
Taylor Swift has been on a rollercoaster ride that continues to take her higher and higher. The country starlet has been gaining mainstream attention since her run-in with rapper Kanye West on MTV's Video Music Awards night, and though she doesn't talk about the incident anymore she still revels in its attention. So it comes as little surprise that the latest single to come out of her repertoire is "Fifteen," the self-penned tune that brings her back to her freshman year in high school.
The tune made its debut Oct. 9 on CMT just after the Pennsylvania native introduced her special "Fifteen Swiftly Made Videos." It's just the start of her parade that has kept her singles chart toppers, as the 90-minute special showcases her entire video collection like fan favorites "Teardrops on My Guitar," "Love Story," and the VMA winner "You Belong with Me." The single is a real tale of her high school life (or the part she got to experience), as Swift delves into her friend Abigail's heartbreak, meeting new people and first dates. "I like to write personal songs," she said. "I like to write songs that are very obviously about people. I like to write songs about love, and I like to write songs about relationships, and I like to write songs about boys." The simplicity of the tracks has done well for the singer, who recently picked up three awards in major categories at the early October Nashville Music Awards ceremony in the Cannery Ballroom.
Named Artist of the Year, Songwriter-Artist of the Year and Country Album of the Year for Fearless, it seems that little can stop this 19-year-old from taking over the modern country music world. "See, when I write songs, I write them because I need to figure something out. I need for what I'm feeling to make more sense to me," she said on her MySpace page, "so I make it into a song." Let's hope that there are a lot more mysteries out there for Ms. Swift, who has created two albums chockfull of successful singles in her short career.
Following her win at Nashville, it should come as no surprise that she will be hoping to follow up her act performing at the 43rd annual Country Music Association Awards with a win, as well. Scheduled to perform during the November ceremony along with Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, Sugarland, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for her sophomore Fearless, Music Video of the Year for "Love Story" and the coveted Entertainer of the Year. Last's year's win by Carrie Underwood for Entertainer of the Year was an upset as it was the first time in over a decade that a female country artist picked up the highest prize of the night - can our favorite country teen do it this year? Find out if she has it in her when the CMA Awards roll around next month.
