The Bed

The bed is usually the focus of the bedroom. Available styles include four-poster beds, daybeds, sleigh beds, platform beds, and pencil post beds to name a few. Standard sizes are twin, full/queen, king and the largest California king size bed. What size and style you choose depends on what kind of space you are working with and how much space you might want to leave free for other functions. If you want a large headboard that reaches to the ceiling make sure you know the exact dimensions so fit is not a problem later on. Also make sure the dimensions of the bed work well with any other pieces of furniture in the room ? make sure there is plenty of space to walk around each piece. Bedrooms can fill up fast with too much furniture if you're not careful.

If you have a television in the bedroom, you might want to make sure headboards supply enough support for the angle at which you will watching television. Make sure the piece of furniture that will be holding the television is not too high or low for viewing from the bed or sitting area that will be used. Some people prefer to have the television in a cupboard so the electronics can be hidden away when not in use. If you always have a book at your bedside, be sure to choose bedside lighting that is adequate for reading light. For a couple, it is best to have small lights with a focused beam that will not bother the person who falls asleep first.

Fabrics and Rugs

Various size pillows in rich diverse fabrics can add drama and romance to the bedroom.
