Milan is one of the most famous city's of Italy and is famous because it's the artistic centre of Italy. This city has a lot of landmarks like the Duomo, it's a very large cathedral (the second largest in he world) and it is the largest gothic church. There is a golden Madonna on the top called the little Madonna and that is Milan's symbol. The city is founded around 400BC by the Celtic people and was declared capital of the western Roman Empire. The name is called after Medelhan meaning the middle of the plain in Celtic. Milan has a subtropical climate and has a comfortable Mediterranean climate. Some famous food of the region is coletta alla Milanese and that is a fried veal also known as Wienerschnitzel. Another great dish is cassoeula what is stewed pork. But back to Culture and art, Milan is also famous for it's opera lirica that's called Teatro alla. This theatre is opened in under the name Nuovo Ducal Teatro alla Scala but it was destroyed by a fire in 1776 and reopened under the new name in 1778. Scala also was a galary and a casino with many gamblers. In Milan there is also the Basilica of Sant?Ambrogio one of Italy's most ancient churches and was built in about 380 by Bishop Ambrose. The first name of this building is Basilica Martyrum. The hut-like look is typical for the Lombard architecture from the medieval time.

The rite of Milan is different then the Catholic one and is named Ambrosian Rite.
