There are many options when it comes to managing and preventing acne.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 1 - Don't use alcohol. If you are going to use a skin toner, use one that does not have high concentrations of rubbing alcohol also called isopropyl alcohol. These strong astringents tend to strip the top layer of your skin off which cause your sebaceous glands to produce extra oil. As a result, you will may end up with dry, red skin and the possibility of increased blemishes.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 2 - Avoid aggressive scrubs. If you wish to scale off layers of skin use a mild formula with tiny grains. Try to avoid products that have almond or apricot shell fragments in them as they can irritate or damage skin and aggravate your acne.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 3 - Don't over-wash. Remember, acne is not caused by dirt. Thus, there is no need to over-wash. Scrubbing your face will not make acne go away and will just tend to dry out healthy skin and irritate acne-prone areas. Over-washing may also stimulate extra oil production which can result in more breakouts. Limit your face washing to two to three times daily.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 4 - Drink lots of water to flush. This will flush out toxins in your body. Even if you don't suffer from acne, this is a good advice. Drink four to six large glasses of water every day.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 5 - Don't squeeze or pick. This will tend to inflame your skin and may force bacteria deeper into the skin causing greater infection. You will also damage the surrounding tissue which may leave an acne scar.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 6 - Stop smoking. Medical studies have shown that smoking can exacerbate the effects of acne.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 7 - Keep your hands off your face. Excessive touching of your face, including rubbing or even resting your chin in your hands, can drive Propionibacterium acnes (the bacteria that causes breakouts) into your pores.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 8 - When you exercise, wash off. Exercise generates heat and moisture which is trapped against your skin. This creates an ideal breeding ground for the spread of bacteria.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 9 - Get regular exercise. Exercise tends to reduce stress and can increase oxygen flow to the skin. This can contribute to alleviating some acne symptoms.
Acne Prevention Tip Number 10 - Eat a well-balance diet. Your skin, like your body, will benefit from a well-balanced diet rich with fruits, vegetables and grains.
Remember, there are steps you can take to reduce the severity of acne. Decide on a good regime and try and stick with it.
