The Basic Outline Of An Addiction Treatment Program In Kansas

    View:
Though the addiction treatment program in Kansas is much varied, there are definitely common patterns that can be drawn. If you research on these options well, you will find that all treatment programs in Kansas are divided into three main phases. These phases are the intervention program, the detoxification program and finally the aftercare treatment.

If you are looking for an addiction treatment program in Kansas for yourself or for someone from your family, then you must get yourself acquainted with these three phases quite well. Here is how these three phases are conducted and what relevance they have to the entire treatment program.

The Intervention Phase

This is the first phase of the treatment in which the patient is convinced that they have a problem (which is their addiction) and that they must seek treatment for the problem as soon as possible. They are encouraged that treatment for their addiction is surely possible, whatever state of the addiction they are in. This is a wholly optimistic program in which the patient is motivated to enter into treatment.

However, in order to make the program a success, it is extremely important to bring together a group of people that can really wield some kind of influence over the patient. Mostly, these people are those from the family of the patient. Even the friends of the patient who can motivate them to enter into an addiction treatment program can be used in forming the group. In addition to that, there are a host of other people that can be used in the intervention program. The intervention program in Kansas includes the family physicians of the patient, their schoolteachers or professors or employers as the case may be, their religious heads and even law enforcing organizations. These people are driven with a single purpose: to convince and get the patient into an addiction treatment program in Kansas.

Towards this end, they will be coached by an intervention specialist that might be connected to a rehab center in the state. This specialist will tell the people about what they must ideally say to the patient so that they can get into treatment. They will be also made to rehearse these speeches before they can finally deliver it to the patient in an individual as well as a group format.

The intervention program in Kansas ends when the patient is convinced about entering a treatment program and this is when the intervention specialist will suggest what kind of treatment would be the best for the patient's condition and even help in getting the admission into the treatment program.

The Detoxification Phase

Though the entire addiction treatment program in Kansas might be quite long and might include a lot of elements in it, the detoxification is where the program begins. During the detoxification program, the patient will be made to abstain from the substance of addiction in an isolated setting. This will help the patient to overcome the urge for the substance. However, detox is not that easy. This is because the patient will develop withdrawal pangs when he or she abstains from the substance. This will cause the patient to have very strong cravings for the substance, but consuming the substance at this point just to dispel the cravings will defeat the entire purpose of the treatment.

Instead, the treatment center will devise a medicinal therapy related to the kind of addiction the person is in that will help the person come out of the cravings for the substance. This medication will be such that, as long as the person consumes it, he or she will not get strong temptations to use the addictive substance.

The purpose of the detoxification treatment in Kansas is to cleanse the patient's body from the residues of the substance of addiction so that there are no health problems in future and so that the person finds it easier to come out of the temptation for using the substance.

The Aftercare Phase

The detox treatment might continue for anywhere between four days to four weeks, depending on how much time the patient requires to come out of the withdrawal. After that, the patient will need an aftercare program. The basic intention of this program will be to help the patient overcome whatever urges for the substance that he or she has.

An aftercare treatment program in Kansas is conducted through a very carefully planned counseling program accompanied by education and maintenance medication. In conjunction, these therapies help to keep the person de-addicted for a long time. The family is also an important part of the treatment program here; their inclusion ensures that the patient will be well monitored even at home. Another intention of including the family is to help them cope with the addiction and to train them the right method of looking after the patient's treatment.
